I’m probably out of my depth as to how a quantum computer functions but the way you describe it breaking encryption would also be rather useless as well. I had thought it was just a system wherein the code is switched from binary 1/0 to one where you can do +0/1 neutral 0/1 and -0/1 or something like that. If you have to be dealing with individual qubits then it sounds useless.

Basically they have all the utility of a supercomputer. Breaking encryption is a use sure. As is computational chemistry and protein folding and interactions. The reason it can do so is because of the information processing. It doesn’t mean new equations but that the equations that are made can be tested faster. There’s various times where equations to help understand bio/chemistry are limited to remain feasible to use but reduce the precision and accuracy.

The timeline of caloric restriction matters. Muscle breakdown occurs first because muscles store glycogen which is a much faster energy source than fat. Fat breakdown can go on for longer as it has a higher density of energy. Simple short-term reduction in calories thus results in muscle before fat. Higher protein intake mitigates or prevents muscle loss in longer-term diets compared to lower protein intake as the muscle cells are used to process/use the protein. Exercise is the best at keeping or growing muscle as it turns them from energy providers to energy users.
