Last week the 3mdeb firmware consulting firm released the first open-source firmware for a modern AMD Ryzen AM5 platform with their work to port AMD openSIL and Coreboot in their downstream Dasharo flavor to an MSI desktop ATX motherboard. Now that it’s working out well, 3mdeb is working to upstream their AM5 platform support and Phoenix SoC support into upstream AMD opensIL as well as Coreboot
Note, LLMs are very good at finding suspect “security issues” in kernel code these days. But even with the best of the current and next generation tools, at least 1/3 of the results they generate are flat out wrong or harmful. So, if you think your LLM-found/fixed issue in a drivers/staging/ file is really valid, it’s fine to submit it BUT you must have first tested it on the actual hardware for the driver, and described how you have done so, in order for us to be willing to take the change.
Just wondering if anyone else feels like this. Personally I’m following this community for interesting stuff around Linux and I don’t care too much for a lost percentage or another. Today’s an extreme example with 5 articles (steam share, 2x “10%”, 2x “not actually 10%). This horserace journalism is rarely doing any good imho.
GNOME Boxes lead developer Felipe Borges has been overhauling the application with a major rewrite and today announced the new beta release. GNOME Boxes has migrated to using the GTK4 toolkit and libadwaita. The new GNOME Boxes code can also handle installing Microsoft Windows 11 now without needing any manual workarounds for Secure Boot or TPM requirements.
If you use FreeTube, you may be aware that it’s really been struggling with SABR reload requests lately. If you’re not familiar, what basically ends up happening is that YouTube will send a request to load an ad or whatever, and sometimes FreeTube will end up in a loop where it keeps reloading over and over.

We’ve all heard the “my 100TB NAS is full of Linux ISOs” joke but how many of you actually hoard ISOs? I just noticed I have ~100GB, so not that many though definitely way more than I need (I just like to try new distros on my VMs and I never delete them after).
Two years into full-time Linux and I’m finally burning the distro-hopping cycle. I fell for the Arch/AUR trap for a while, but I got tired of spending my weekends debugging file manager crashes instead of maintaining my home lab.
A while ago I decided to get an extra m.2 drive and put Linux Mint on it to try and switch off Windows. I unplugged the original drive, plugged in the new one, put Mint on it, then put the old drive back in. This has allowed me to dual-boot. However, Ive since fully committed to the Linux drive and haven’t used the Windows drive in a long time. How do I put Linux on both drives?

I’m running CachyOS, and having an Nvidia card, I’m using their Nvidia-specific kernel. I know this 3060 won’t last forever, and I’m planning to upgrade to an AMD card for a better overall experience.
