It builds a taxonomy of occupations, detects mentions of them in anime, classifies each mention with an LLM

    Yeah no.

McConnel’s autopen signing things now? Low-effort spooky campfire story.

I’m just saying I could do it with two. One-and-a-half in a pinch.

    If you’re talking about the greentext and 4chan-y sort of meme communities… I mean… it’s 4chan.

Like, the latest post in !greentext@sh.itjust.works is about James Bond and mixology. And then at the end it’s ableist.

I’m not sure whether that community is run/modded by people that think “it’s fine if it’s just jokes” (which I don’t agree with, for the record) or if their justification is a bit more convoluted. (Maybe something like “everyone knows to expect this community to be filled with bigotry of every single sort, but at least if they come here to this community, they’ll see such stuff in a community/climate where few would try to pass that off as a good/normal thing than if they went to 4chan for these memes, and people probably won’t stop viewing them even if they’re not available here.” Though, then again, the comments section of that community is pretty bad as well. At least far worse than most of the rest of Lemmy as far as I’ve seen.)

But yeah. Any community that’s mostly dedicated to 4chan content is gonna be pretty well dripping with every sort of bigotry you can imagine.

Are there other meme communities that have these issues, though? I can’t say I’ve noticed any, but would love to know at least some examples.

But you can’t make stroganoff out of corn. :(

I would hope that this would give the few sane people left at Amazon a bit of ammo to reduce reliance on AI, but this is Amazon we’re talking about.

“Mr. Fauci, how dare you tell people not to inject bleach and snort Ivermectin?!”

When society collapses, all the gold preppers have buried in their back yards will be useless and you’ll be king.

I know it. Super wish I had more than 16GB these days. I even added enough to max out my system to my Amazon wish list back when it was cheap. Should have pulled the trigger when I had the chance. Not doing so will be my greatest deathbed regret.

I’ve got this trick. Basically, I start relaxing the muscles on the way to the restroom. Not enough that there’s any chance I’ll piss myself before I get there. Just enough that by the time I’m in front of the urinal, it’s not difficult to start the stream quickly.

There was this one time I felt kindof bad about. went to the restroom where I worked (back before I was working remotely) and used “the trick” as usual. I get there, and there’s a guy at one of the urinals already. I peed, flushed, washed my hands, and left the restroom before he produced a drop.

Of course, in all likelihood, “the trick” won’t continue to work so well as my beard grows grayer, and some day I’ll be the other guy.

    So shitposts are fine?

I’ve been training my whole life for this.

Sometimes we purposefully make computers do nondeterministic things on purpose. Hardware random number generators, for instance.

But not counting those situations, speedrunners often call some of the “other factors that just absolutely cannot be accounted for” kind of stuff that rethnor is talking about “RNG”.

But even aside from that, there are some even less deterministic cases. Also from speedrunning, there’s the famous SM64 upwarp that my have been, but probably wasn’t a cosmic ray, but very likely was some kind of hardware failure that wouldn’t be accounted for by only considering how the N64 is supposed to work (given processor architecture and such).

But an example I find even more interesting. There was a Defcon presentation where someone registered domain names that were one bit different from very frequently used domain names, kindof like typosquatting, but these were for domain names that no human was typing. These were domain names that computer programs were hitting, and the domain names weren’t derived from user input. But his one-bit-off domain names got a significant amount of traffic. Just from random memory corruptions and such due to some variety of weird hardware failures.

I’d be skeptical of anyone I know claiming that they’d actually personally encountered something they knew to be truly non-deterministic in hardware that wasn’t in some way temporarily or permanently faulty or damaged in some way, but I think it is a thing that can happen in computers. And some of that nondeterminism comes from sources that actually do act at quantum scales were true nondeterminism isn’t unlikely to have sway.
