What We Do

Media Literacy Now advances media literacy education in schools nationwide through advocacy, coalition-building, and policy change. We’re ensuring all students develop critical thinking skills to evaluate information, question what they see, and engage safely in an increasingly complex digital world shaped by AI and social media—skills essential for their well-being, future success, and informed citizenship.

Our History

Media Literacy Now was founded in 2013 as a response to a parent’s growing concern about the messages her children were receiving through cartoons and advertisements. What started out as an individual grassroots initiative turned into a national movement to get media literacy education into more classrooms around the country.

Staff &
Leadership

Our staff works closely with our Board of Directors and National Advisory Council – two groups of talented professionals who are dedicated to Media Literacy Now’s mission to ensure all K-12 students are taught media literacy.

State Advocacy Leaders

Our State Advocates build support and awareness among individuals and groups within their state and work with state policymakers to pursue meaningful legislation to elevate media literacy education as a priority.

Our
Partners

Together with our partners, we’re working to advance media literacy education so that all K-12 students are given the tools and skills needed to become confident and competent media consumers and creators.

“Media literacy skills help children & teens understand how today’s media and technology systems shape the information they see and the habits they develop — they’re essential.”
