  • That the vibe I’ve been getting. It’s all the same shit millennials got shit for from the media in the 2010s. Too weak, too childish, too coddled. All stuff that is both untrue and has that right-wing manufactured shaming stink all over it. It’s the same stuff right-wingers shamed lefists and Dems for, but moved to an acceptable target because ageism is still culturally safe to do and easy to manipulate people with. A lot of people do seem to be catching on and questioning generational warfare though, especially as a lot of Zoomers are getting older themselves.

My tin foil hat theory is that the market is looking for fresh meat boomer replacements. The market has always hated millennials because we tend to try and look past vibes and overanalyse our consumption “Buying an expensive car and a fancy house just to keep up with the jonses seems silly. I prefer cheaper hobbies. I want authenticity in art” Say what you will about millennial nerd culture but we complained a lot more about the enshittification of media than our predecessors. We ‘killed’ a lot of industries this way and they never forgave us. But the market wants people who they peer pressure into buying whatever new slop they tell people to consume. Safe easy consumers. That’s why there is such an emphasis now on consuming things that are specifically served up to you by algorithms. Fashion haul culture and so on. Ever since TikTok was sold out to the US the aesthetic culture stopped being a wide range of ‘cores’ that were largely based around making your own stuff, and became homogenized into like 3 different fashions and aesthetics. It really sucks to see because early TikTok was great and there are a lot of creative young people out there, but that’s being watered down and enshittified just like the generations that came before.

But also I could just be out of touch.
