It’s a great one if you have like a netbook or other light resource device. Or like to heavy modify the layout aka ricing
If it isn’t yet, wait a bit. Once another person comes through, you know what you must do

There was a while ago and then it was recently revived
Debian for stability, arch for the memes, !#++ for the minimalism(still Debian but will make themselves into whatever you want)
So… Debian then? Hannah Montana Linux has historically been a kubuntu reskin
My wife worked in ICU then COVID ICU. She still gets PTSD flashbacks from everything she dealt with when someone comes in with similar symptoms. I got front row tickets to seeing a person who’s entire job is to keep people alive go from “oh someone I had today coded and we couldn’t bring them back” every so often to “we had multiple people die today. A few more aren’t much longer. If we put them on their back, they’ll die. If we give them water, they’ll choke and die. They still refuse to believe that COVID is real as they are actively suffering and dying of it”.
Yeah, we get a touch testy when people say it was fake or overblown
Member when the government cared about monopolies and forced companies to split completely when they got too much market share?
Or that time a deadly flu swept through the world and while it did kill a bunch of people (and change the course of history in interesting ways), people and the government followed best practices known by science at the time and social distanced/masked up as best they understood it? Yeah, it got a racial nickname of Spanish flu despite it not originating there but still.

Work Reform@lemmy.world•Billionaires used to build libraries and hospital wings, now they just buy politicians.
6·6 days agoYou know, I don’t think inflation will make much of a difference in this case
Edit: I looked it up. $1 usd in 2000 is $1.94 in 2026 money. So… Amount in 2000 is $36 million. Not quite the 2.6 billion today
They very clearly stated it was nobodies business but the Turks

2·13 days agoBut that’s not why you’d get the same answer. You’d get the eggs location when asking for dairy because they’re in the same place. If you asked for where the car batteries were, you’d end up where the oil is but no one says batteries are a type of oil or vice versa. You just asked for something else in the same area

While not obligatory on the patron to tip, the pay of waitstaff assumes they are being tipped. While the employer legally has to make up for a person’s hours if the total goes below that of everyone else’s minimum wage, anyone who doesn’t consistently make their paycheck from tips is considered a bad server and likely to lose their job.
The problem arises where places that shouldn’t be paying their workers the lower waitstaff minimum wage, are. This means that you never know if a person serving you relies on tips to make their living and adds a moral or social pressure towards tipping in places it normally wouldn’t be done. Companies view this as free money when their workers don’t get the tips.
There is technically no obligation to tip. There is societal pressure to do so that is being exploited.
I wish I lived in a developed nation where I could just “go get blood work done” for a nominal fee or be able to afford to care about long term effects instead of surviving day to day. Not sarcastic, I legit wish that

5·20 days agoOh, gender absolutely does factor in. Women are seen as lesser because misogyny. And, while the normal person wouldn’t consider there to be an ideal state, these people definitely have one in mind. It’s toxic hyper masculinity on meth

This wouldn’t be necessary if more of the Internet used AO3 tagging and category systems
