People who play the more involved and serious sim racing games look down on it because (IMO) its the most accessible for casual gamers.

NGL I look at those cars and while I dont want one. Im happy someone does, there isnt enough joy in the world.
Thats why Gran Turismo haters can fuck off.
I owned a ps4 already and Id owned Gran Turismo as a casual gamer before I decided to give sim racing a go. I bought a $200 used wheel and pedals off marketplace and built a cheap rig for about another $200.
It might be “Simcade” or whatever elitist gatekeepy shit people want to say but my total investment to suck at simracing is $500. You can spend $10,000 and still suck at Iracing.
I am a huge car guy. Removing an engine MAKES SENSE to me, I understand on a fundamental level how to get the best out of an engine and drivetrain but if I have to do literally any custom wiring I farm it out to a spark wizard who can tame the magic pixies that run up and down the rainbow spaghetti. FUCK WIRING.
While I dont understand windows “fundamentally” Ive also been screwing with it since 1995, it makes sense. Linux just doesnt to me.

4·7 days agoIMO the movies should be movies.
Tone down the world building, the existential messages and social commentary and make something thats more accessable to a wider audience.
Dont fuck with the show, the show is absolutely for all of that.
Well if they rupture one it could complicate things.
Also YT might be a soulless big tech giant with highly questionable ethics but they are literally a modern technological marvel with a how-to video on pretty much anything, niche and hobby content that “tv” and streaming would never touch and literally endless pure entertainment…
They are not now nor have they ever been a public service. Frankly its a minor miracle that in this day and age that they have a purely advertising supported option for access.
Everyone in the comments arguing and proving the meme right.

2·13 days agoRace car engines have teams of engineers who pull engines down after each race, and while the fuel allows you to push performance envelopes its about 30% less energy dense, its also hydroscopic so it absorbs atmospheric moisture and spoils much quicker. Its an alternative, but its very much a trade off in terms of drawbacks.

Every time Nintendo and Switch comes up on Lemmy you see the flood of haters who cant wrap their heads around the idea that parents will pay extra for their kids shit to “just work” and overpay for AAA Nintendo titles that are complete and have no microtransactions.
The steam machine is for people who remember pc gaming fondly but cant be bothered building a rig or dealing with specs on prebuilts.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you agree with this view: Why do you think societies should allow billionaires to exist? How does that benefit the common good?
1·1 month agoAt “Billionaire” (or even hundreds of millions of dollars) levels of wealth the government should implement a different tax scale based on net worth. Simpler and harder to manipulate. An annual minimum tax bill of 1% of your net worth that cannot be reduced, offset, deferred or otherwise mitigated per billion annually to do buisness in the country, per country.
Just stop them rorting loopholes. I think people would probably hate billionaires a whole lot less if they just paid a FAIR amount of tax.
Edit: actually the math works pretty much all the way down. Everyone should have a minimum income tax bill every year of 1% of their net worth with the only exemption being your primary residence.

Your getting downvoted but at the core of it too many people want to occupy too little space.
I personally think UBI should be applied selectively in order to make living in rural and semi rural areas more appealing and encourage people to retire early. Everyone wants to live where everything is and all the cool stuff happens but most of us are working too much and dont have enough money to do any of it.
The idea of moving to a town of a few hundred people isnt very appealing unless you tell me that you can still get by without NEEDING to work.
