Looking back #2
On March of this year we went to San Diego (yes, I am playing serious catch-up on this Rad blog). We went with a home school group to Sea World, and no, we weren’t home schooling back then but I believe in not letting school get in the way of my children’s education (thanks Mark Twain). My incredible niece, let’s call her “Chuck”, allowed us to stay with her and her hubby and then she accompanied us to Sea World.

Chunk #2 gave this Dolphin the endearing name of “Dolphy”. Later, after she was splashed, she felt differently.

The next day we did our usual trip to the Mormon Battalion
After this I went looking for the IKEA. I thought for sure I could remember where it was. I couldn’t. After passing the zoo twice, the historic district and a certain mall five times, I gave up. The Chunks were patient but very tired so I headed for La Jolla and we found-
The. Best. Tide-pool. Beach. Ever.
It was a Thursday afternoon. No one was around. This was OUR beach (for about an hour anyway). It was one of those perfect moments in my life.
Chunk #1, you told me that your favorite part of this beach was seeing the little crabs and seashells and sea anemones.
Chunk #2, your favorite memory of this beach was touching the sea anemones that were covered in sea shells.
School started, can’t you just smell the school supplies?
I love school supplies. Glue sticks, markers, #2 pencils; glossy folders with the pictures of the Beatles or Julius the Monkey; a fresh box of undented crayons with their waxy balm; and most important, Trapper Keepers (I miss those, are they still around?).
Did you ever watch You’ve Got Mail? At the beginning Joe Fox/Tom Hanks says: “Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly-sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.” The Fall DOES make me want to buy school supplies. When my children were just babies I would walk by the Target shelves that were specifically dedicated to a new school year and feel some major mixed emotions. I was so glad they weren’t at that stage of their life but still felt this incredible urge to buy new scissors, glue, and crayons.
I think school supplies are my only favorite part of the start of school.

A very strange feeling. (Hmm, not to draw from the moment of severe-mama-loneliness but I must say, my booty looks big! ... but I think I was carrying a purse. Let's just say I was carrying a purse.)

I have a lot of catch up going on. Not just on my blog either…….my house, my body, my hair, my calling, (uh, not necessarily in that order but it certainly does say something about me, don’t it?)
El Jefe’s birthday was Monday….which was also the start of school. His birthday also kicks off what I lovingly call Birthday Month (or Cake Month, mmmmmm cake). We also just celebrated our anniversary (uhhhh, ya, if you’re wondering, that was in JUNE) and we had another fun filled adventure to Idaho. So I have a lot to report here.
But not today.
Last night I read to Chunk #1. He’s been reading the first Harry Potter book (a moment I’ve been excited for since he started to read “cat” and “ball”). He made a tent in his room, brought in a lamp, and we curled up together to find out the next exciting news in the world of Hogwarts. It was a great moment. I love reading to my kids.
Our latest favorite author (besides J.K. Rowlng) is Mo Willems. Check out the Pig and Elephant books, there are a bunch of them. They are soooooooo cute.
