I recently installed a video game I used to play a lot as a kid and it brought so many great memories!

cats@lemmy.world•A small hairless patch has appeared on my cat; should I be worried?
3·3 days agoMaybe if you post a pic we can provide with more info. A vet visit never hurts, but it may be something harmless and you can save the cat some stress from the vet

5·3 days agoAre you sure your cat is not scratching there? Mine has itchy ears and sometimes she will scratch vigorously and remove some hair
Thank you so much!
Thanks to both of you!
Now that you’re both here, I have a question/request. What I love most from the “old Reddit” interface is using RES to navigate through posts with the keyboard: “h” to hide, j/k as up/down, “l” to open in a new tab, etc. Makes browsing super fast and efficient.
Is this something you’d consider? I’m not asking for a full RES reimplementation, of course. Just the keyboard navigation.
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Going for a walk always cheers your spirits!

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•People don't hate on plane travel enoughEnglish
132·8 days agoYou’re wrong. Have my upvote.
The issue with cars is people abusing them instead of relying on public transport, where it would be cheaper and more convenient, but some people pay more for the extra comfort, which is seen as wasteful.
This snowballs into urban planning centered on cars, which creates a pretty bad incentives loop.
On the other hand, planes are a necessity for some business travel, and a nice way of visiting the world once per year. Yes, some people abuse flight, but it’s a non issue overall.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Matrix is a terrible messaging systemEnglish
11·11 days agoI genuinely thought it was an unpopular opinion. I keep reading a lot of Matrix apologists on the selfhosted/tech communities, but it seems that they may be a minority overall!

4·11 days agoI actually do agree with you quite a lot. XMPP has two important issues: everything is an extension, including encryption (n 1998 we were still using telnet…) and relying heavily on XML, which was a good idea en 1998 but now we have better formats.
Thanks for the fair arguments. It may seem I’m defending XMPP, actually, I’m not… I ran a server and it was not great. I was trying to compare an --as you say-- 27-year-old protocol with a modern one, and Matrix doesn’t seem to be significantly better. It’s a shame, because I’d love to use it, but it just does not work well.

281·11 days agoXMPP is a protocol too, can run on a Pentium-II (I hosted a server with 100s of users on a P2) and it doesn’t suffer from federation issues or message loss.
When there is not good client or server available, maybe it’s because the protocol was poorly designed.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Albums should be listened to in entirety as they are a single piece of art.
6·11 days agoYep. Nothing felt worse than spending 20€ in a CD and realizing that, apart from the hit single, the rest of it was pretty bad.
I know, right? PBF comics are usually very depressing, but I found this one totally wholesome!
Nice angle. I also like the version “you have a better life than a medieval king”

I agree. Also, since Apple services keep being (even if only so slightly) worse than their Google/Microsoft counterparts, including ads totally removes their competitive advantage. What’s the point of using a worse product that’s also enshittified?
I’m not a hater, I am writing this from my iPhone on a full Apple ecosystem. But if Apple chooses to follow the Google route then their products will have no appeal to me.
I know it’s all about money, but I don’t get it. I really thought they were smarter than that.
I wouldn’t mind that the scorching sun would leave for a weekend…

CDs and Bandcamp are also my way to go.
In my case, the main driver was disappearing songs. I hate it when I have a great playlist or collection of albums and some of them mysteriously disappear without notice. Or worse, they get replaced with a different version.
sigh so back to CDs we go… luckily second hand discs are dirt cheap, and even new albums are quite cheap (inflation-wise) compared to their prices in the 90s
