Oh shit, is this it? Is this actually the year of the Linux desktop?

Your standard off the shelf easy to setup Linux ISO (mint for example) is like 4 GB after install, it includes a whole office suite, a few games, screensavers, GIMP, and a whole bunch of software you may not ever realize is on there or even need.
Did you know many distros standard install includes the GNU C/C++ compiler? Do most people need the GNU compiler? No, but the whole OS and all these tools is already smaller than a barebones install of windows since microslop just ships bloat.

Yeah I think it was removed in windows 7 or 8.

Oof, I know the pain of a broken bike when it’s your favorite transportation. My condolences buddy.

“Update and Shutdown” still acts as “Update and Restart” on windows. They added a whole new feature that is indistinguishable from the previous feature.
Though I agree macos has the problem of “well Firefox was open so I was stuck here over night”

You’re kinda being a dick to someone who has been vocally anti-trump since he first dated a trump supporter in 2012. That’s not a typo. Since Obama’s reelection I’ve hated the guy and voted against him in every election. Don’t blame me for him winning again.
There’s a lot of blame to be pointed directly at Biden and Kamala’s 2024 campaign for not reading the room and offering milquetoast promises.
If you don’t want to come back here fine, you’d personally give Republican’s ammo for their sudden hatred of Canadians and I would rather mend our two country’s relationship.

I mean, most people don’t know their encryption keys. A correct password retrieves the keys from the TPM, the duress pin wipes the TMP so now even a correct password is unable to get any of the data.
Hell, even if you use the same password in multiple locations (you shouldn’t) a good service will salt (add a random but consistent jumble of characters for your account specifically) and then hash (weird complicated math that makes it really hard to reverse your password) your salted password then check if that salted hash matches what’s on file.

sigh
I’m sorry Canada. A lot of us are waiting for it to happen too.

The “patch” for the X1 also allows anyone on the home console of the account to play the game, which has led to many people game sharing with a friend.
No, its still incredibly easy to get AI to tell you how to make drugs or a bomb.

I’m disappointed I’m not lefty enough for the club 😭
You seem very needlessly hostile to me. Is there a reason you’re being a dick? Have I offended you in some way?
All I did was confirm that the scientists think batman appearing got people to focus more on their surroundings.
Pretty sure that was the hypothosis the experimenters came to. Suddenly seeing batman out of the corner of your eye is way more jarring that it forces you to focus more on your surrondings.
As an example, I remember back in highschool physics we heard that some scientics just discover tychions travel faster than light. Well, it turns out that those scientists didn’t have some piece of equipment plugged in all the way or something thus giving them those results.
A plane is a bus that is fast, can fly, and can traverse great distances. An LLM spews statistically accurate looking language with no regard for accuracy or content. These are not the same. One is objectively useful even if its common current incarnation pollutes a lot.

I’d like to thank the Canadian firefighters for helping us out, and I am deeply sorry we aren’t returning the favor. We’re all in this world together and we (the US) should act like it.
God that poor woman. That’s so many kids.
Yeah I’ve seen that one before. I was so glad to have training at my job that explicitly stated “if you aren’t the electricity guy, don’t fuck with the electricity” like I’d fucking argue that I should be allowed to lick the 480v. Nope, I want nothing to do with the spicy cables.
Yeah, I mean fuck us and all we do suck, but I don’t think people outside the US and Canada really grasp how big this place is. A few years ago I drove to Montreal. It’s a 12 hour drive going 100km/h the whole way, and that’s to get to the nearest city that doesn’t speak English by default, a 24 hour drive in any other direction and I would still be surrounded by people speaking English.
I mean, they always have. YouTube’s whole job is to get you to watch more YouTube. It sees you watched video A so now it trys to figure out what else you might like to watch next so it suggests video B based on your interests and watching patterns. What the algorithm specifically prioritizes has changed a few times, which is why there’s been fads in the algorithm. But determining what is something you’d be interested in isn’t something that’s easy to put directly into code, but something that can “vibe” it out is a much better tool to use. Its actually one of the better use cases for AI (AI in broad terms not specifically LLMs or other generative slop currently on everyone’s shit list).
