If it were up to people the entire DMC series, Zelda series, all metroidvanias, any sort of action RPG, and any game where you fight a boss would be a soulslike game. It’s goofy.

It reminds me of the metal genre. It was rock, then punk, then grunge and slowly all of that became lumped into a metal genre of some sort and now any music that is remotely heavy is metal-something completely washing out the foundation that it was built upon.

Legend of Zelda and Metroid were the classic, find an item to beat the next boss/puzzle game. Shadow if Colossus, Super Mario RPG, hell even the resident evil games all offered things that lead up to the soulslike genre.
