I’ve kinda realized that a major comparison point between the USA and USSR is that both are/were primarily united by allegiance to the ideology of their governments, with the USSR centering around the framework of ML theory with various tweaks depending on the party’s direction at the time and the USA being centered around the basic points of mid-late 1700s enlightenment liberalism (but being careful not to take the conclusions as far as the French would, so as to not step on the toes of the substitute feudalism of the south)

Just as the Soviet ideological framework was load-bearing (as seen in its collapse pretty much immediately after they started scrapped MLism to figure out some compromise with the emerging neoliberal consensus), so too is American Lockeian liberalism- but there’s a good chance its gonna get axed for the “rights to life and liberty” part before we’d have to axe it for the “and property” part
