The problem here is: the UN was specifically designed to have no ability to enforce any laws. It was the only way to even create it in the first place. Otherwise you’d have the US and Russia do everything in their power to either not let the UN form or destroy it afterwards. Just like with the ICC.

We need a new international body, something combining the UN, ICC, and more. But that will only be possible after the US Empire collapses. Russia is a problem too, but it’s too weak to realistically do anything on its own. At best it’ll slow things down.

Honestly, as a European, I’d try and to the same. Not because I’d need to pay 2.7 million dollars for a helicopter ride, but because I’d feel terrible occupying it for an hour, along with the rescue team, when someone else in the area could be dying.

Well, I did say it’s quite rare and not that it never happens.

There was a similar case in Poland last year, where the prime minister also invited Netanyahu to the country, completely ignoring the arrest warrant and assuring him that he’ll be safe.

In the end, Bibi didn’t show up and Poland’s PM likely expected as much. Not trying to defend either him or Merz, but these invites may just be political plays. Still a serious issue though, since they shouldn’t be inviting him anyway.

I’m not telling anyone what to do, just sharing my personal perspective. Which is to prioritize my own wellbeing over trying to fix the EU’s systemic issues.

Honestly, I can’t see any realistic solution to the EU’s current problems. It took over half a century to realize that the problems exist. And even though they’re finally acknowledged - nobody is really doing anything significant about them. Just some half-assed pretend solutions.

The ICC seems irrelevant here. Its purpose is to prosecute members and employees of governments and militaries who commit serious crimes. Which it is doing, albeit with a focus on weaker countries.

It has successfully issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and a few other Israeli government and military officials.

They’re not really being ‘ignored’ as much as you may think they are. It’s mostly that the warrants are only legally binding in countries that signed the Rome treaty. Which Netanyahu and his goons know to avoid.

That said, there were a few cases where a country decided not to act on such warrants, despite having full legal obligation to do so. It’s quite rare, especially in Europe, but it does sometimes happen.

For anyone unfamiliar with patents - companies like Sony file a shitload of patents every year that they never end up using. Until more info comes out, the patent itself means little.

For context, Microsoft has a total of 124462 patents globally, not all of which have been granted. These days it files about 3000 new patents every year. A lot of them are very vague, some don’t make any sense at all, and many are never put to any use.

Apparently Sony has even more patents than Microsoft, currently sitting at nearly quarter million. However, only a third of them have been granted so far.
