I’ve added exceptions for them.

Yes it can be set to anything from 1 week to 10 years.
It’s set by the admin but moderators should have a good enough relationship with them to be able to ask for it to be set to something that suits their needs.

The posts in that community will be deleted after that many days. For remote communities this only affects the local copy of each post and the post will still exist on the source instance and other instances (unless they too delete their copies). For local communities the deletion federates so the post is removed everywhere.
PieFed is intended to run for decades and storage costs money so admins can set how long they want to retain content for, on a per-community basis. It’s up to them to decide what is worth keeping forever and what should be trimmed.
AFAIK piefed.social has ‘forever’ for the retention of all local communities and only trims remote communities. In some communities piefed.social only keeps posts for very short periods, like 28 days, because it’s the kind of content people look at once and has no lasting value beyond that.

Morgan Stanley helped arrange a private-credit vehicle, funded by outside investors, that buys the chips and leases them to Anthropic in an adaptation of the vendor-financing model Boeing and GE built to sell aircraft and engines.
In June, the first tranche of TPU hardware passed from Google through Broadcom into this financing blender. A special-purpose vehicle known as Compute SPV paid $35bn for roughly 1GW of the AI hardware, representing around 1mn TPUs, according to people familiar with the matter.
The SPV’s cash came from three tranches of debt anchored by Apollo and Blackstone. Broadcom, in effect, guaranteed the two senior tranches by agreeing to cover any shortfall if Anthropic stopped paying and the SPV could not sell the hardware for enough to make the senior investors whole.
I don’t know what the hell is going on here but it reeks of shell companies and Enron and meltdowns.

It’s just a matter of time, it’ll happen!

We can all use all the help we can get ;)

Let’s continue our discussion in the chat.
Stage 4: code your own social network and run it on the ThinkPad under the stairs with a DB server in a wardrobe… Fight scrapers and spammers incessantly.

Yeah, it’s closed now.

The business is now closed and there are many bad reviews on Google maps.

Yup. I see it as a form of arrested development.

Oh yeah, I missed that the first time around.
It is unclear whether by ‘AI’ they mean LLMs or just deep learning models. Both are technically AI but you don’t really need a LLM for basic voice transcription.

I think in this case it’s just someone with multiple accounts who forgot which one they were logged in as.
Lemmy’s lack of features is why Lemmys community is how it is and that suits the Lemmy devs and their political goals perfectly.
ideologically posed to keep the thing open, for the people, by the people
What. Check out the modlog, they ban more people than anyone.
It’s up to the mods and admins what they do with PieFed’s functions. Anything can be misused, even simple stuff. Like for example lemmy.ml has a description “a community for Foss and privacy enthusiasts” set by the admins and then ridicules and bans anyone who pushes back against the .ml political line on China. Lemmy.ml is not about foss and privacy.
The software feature of having a instance description is innocuous but it’s being used for deception.

Yes the distrust and hate is weird. And the entitlement.

That’s a good idea but currently we don’t have that level of granularity.
When I made it I assumed that most communities would be ‘forever’ and the auto-deletion would only be used on communities that the admin really didn’t consider worth having in the first place. I don’t know if that’s how it has turned out in practice, 2 years later.
