Wow, you’re so emotional. One protest on one day. Meanwhile, in Hong Kong their protests were an ongoing thing for more than a year until they were interrupted by the COVID pandemic. The German anti-AFD protests started in January 2024 and are still ongoing, more than 2.5 years later.

You haven’t “shown me to be wrong”, you’ve misinterpreted what I said and then got all butthurt. The rest of the world doesn’t respect the US because the US protests were one and done, and didn’t actually change anything.

The “boing” part should really be the sound of parts falling off.

Does “August 3rd” sound unnatural to you?

In spoken conversation it doesn’t really matter. In many contexts you could probably just say “Want to go on the third?” and the person you’re talking to will understand you mean August the third of this current year.

As for why it’s better:

1. It’s in sort order. Even if you use it for things that don’t understand dates, they sort properly because the day is the last part, month is the middle part, and year is the first part. If you include hours, minutes or seconds, the sort order is still preserved.
2. Speaking of things that don’t understand dates, because there are no slashes, you can easily use it in file names, directories, and anything else that treats slash as a special character. In addition, if you include the time part, because it uses “T” to separate the date and time, it doesn’t use a space, so once again it can be easily used anywhere where a space might cause issues.

Oof. The first few seasons were good, but it was pretty weak long before it hit season 8, let alone its final season 11.

It makes me wonder if the problem is that Arsenal is bad at finding people who want to buy players, or if it’s bad at convincing players to leave. If it’s the first one, then the sales team isn’t good at their jobs. But, maybe the club creates such a positive environment where players feel like family, that they don’t want to leave even if they’re not going to play.

The library is still there. The books are still free. There’s no charge for admission.

Admittedly, the card catalogue is now covered in slop, so it’s a bit harder to find things. But, everything’s still there.

If it takes multiple billions of dollars to create a product that is useful for a niche group of pen and paper RPG players, that product is probably not going to succeed.

But, also, if Facebook didn’t have such an unassailable monopoly on social networking, small, focused social networks that targeted a niche group of people might have a chance of surviving.

The psychopathic guy who posted that LinkedIn post didn’t see the issue. I doubt he passed the idea past the company’s lawyers or PR team though.

And Google built a search engine. Everything else they’ve tried to build has failed, other than maybe Gmail which was just a Yahoo Mail / Hotmail clone. Everything else that has been successful has been an acquisition: Maps (Keyhole), YouTube, Android, Google Photos (Picasa), Doubleclick…

We really need robust antitrust. How many of these acquisitions would be thriving companies in their own right, competing with the big tech giants if the tech giants hadn’t been able to absorb them.

Google+ is an example of what happens when companies have to compete instead of acquiring other companies. Google poured billions into it and it flopped completely.

Sure, and that’s pretty good. But, it’s not the same as identifying that there is an issue on its own.

According to the same poll, 25% of the respondents had never heard of the Democratic Socialists of America, and 21% had no opinion of them.

Also, 10% of respondents who leaned democratic that the Democratic Party needed to be completely reformed, 47% said it needed major changes, and 39% said it needed minor changes.

Also, this is a major “throw the bums out” moment:

One question was: “Imagine that after the November 2026 elections, most of the current members of Congress are replaced with new members. Do you think that would:”

51% said it would change congress for the better, only 9% said it would change congress for the worse.

Also, even if only 1/3 consider themselves democratic socialists, 73% would be either enthusiastic or OK with nominating someone who described themselves as a democratic socialist, and only 27% would be uneasy or upset by that.

I actually can’t find in that poll where people identify as democratic socialists. But, everything else suggests now is an ideal time to run a DSA candidate.

Even by the standards of action movies, the Fast and Furious movies have incredibly limited emotional range.

I was looking at his IMDB page, and maybe the claim is literally true. Back in the 1990s he was in New Jack City, then Saving Private Ryan, and then The Iron Giant. Those were well written movies with emotional range.

Since then it has basically been Fast and Furious, XXX, The Chronicles of Riddick. The only real exception has been the Guardians of the Galaxy stuff, which were goofy superhero action movies, but still had a bit of emotional range. But his acting in those was limited to voice acting where he only ever said “I am Groot!”

So, maybe he’s been so flooded with shitty emotionally dead scripts for so long that he can actually be brought to tears by a Fast and Furious script.

How are you completely safe? While you’re in that pocket dimension they’re allowed to do anything they want to you, and you don’t receive the normal protections that you would otherwise get from the constitution if you were in the USA. The pocket dimension seems like the most dangerous place to be.

I don’t think I care enough about Taylor Swift or her songs to care about reviews of them, even if the reviews are funny or whatever.

The pocket dimension matters because if it were just “on entry” you could say “ok, in that case, I won’t enter”. But, once you’re in this special place, the 4th amendment doesn’t apply, so they can search all your stuff. Yet, at the same time, apparently if you do certain things, you’re breaking laws that should only apply to people who are within the USA.

I don’t like that kind of game, and have barely played any of the Elden or Souls games.

But, in addition to the gameplay, for some reason the graphics really are off-putting to me. Even though they look really good, there’s just something off about them. Maybe it’s a kind of uncanny valley thing. I even find the fonts they use to be just slightly wrong. Like, the weight and spacing of the characters is subtly off.

You just reminded me that I was in the middle of playing Odyssey and I just… drifted away from it again. That has happened a bunch of times.

I like sailing around in that game. It’s fun to discover new things. But, yeah, you can’t play it as an assassin, you have to play it as a warrior, and the warrior mechanics are frustrating to me. If I remember correctly there are 3 different skill trees in the game, one that’s stealth-related, one that’s bow-and-arrow related, and one that’s combat-related. But, you can’t really play the game as just a stealth-assassin. You can’t play the game as a ranged bow-and-arrow user. The skill trees reflect this because in the bow-and-arrow one there are all kinds of abilities related to using a bow-and-arrow while you’re in melee combat, and in the stealth tree it’s the same.

I still love climbing to the top of a high thing, unlocking an area, then jumping off. A lot of the little side quests are fun. Sailing around on a boat is fun – and sometimes the boat-to-boat combat is fun too. But, too often it becomes “fight these 50 dudes in melee”. And yeah, they telegraph their attacks, and give you plenty of time to dodge and counter. But, when it’s 50 dudes, sometimes the attacks line up in a way where you can’t deal with all of them, and so they whittle your health down, even if you’re doing the right thing 95% of the time.

Ooh, I just remembered another fun part of it, though it can sometimes also be tedious. There are the missions where you need to clear out an enemy base. You don’t have to use stealth to do that, but you can. And, it can be a really fun problem-solving challenge where you figure out which dude gets isolated at which time, and you stealth-kill him and hide the body before the nearby patrol sees. One by one you can eliminate everyone in the base, until there’s just one guy walking around in a base, all alone, every one of his buddies is dead. Clearing out a base like that can be really satisfying, although sometimes it takes too long. I just wish more of the game allowed you to solve it with stealth.

It was also the first time it happened, so people were more put off by it.

Anybody who plays now knows that their gear is only going to be useful for the current expansion and that they’ll have to start from scratch again if they play the next one.
