Hate to break it to you: It is. For bicycles of course the effect is very small, negligible even. But for example, tires are pretty bad. The ballast and sleepers of train tracks are contaminated and classified as special waste in my country.

I take trains often. Sure sometimes there are delays, often <5min and you still make your connection. Homeless people? Not that I’ve noticed. Crowded, maybe. Constructions, yes but I’m usually not impacted by it. When I use the car, all of them are much worse, so yeah…

You can think of lightning: It is only visible for some 100s of microseconds (<0.5ms) but it is very well visible. Granted, a lot of photons are emitted in this very short though.

Where I live, 1Gbps symmetric is usually the standatd package around 40$/month, with 2.5, 10 and up to 25 available. Maybe ypu can find 100 or 500Mbps, but it’s only marginally cheaper (or even more expensive).

Do most people need it? Probably not though.

I agree with the people pointing out that rich people encouraging veganism is hypocritical as hell.

But on the other hand, it’s kinda true. In the current system, it’s one of the best things to do, while also fighting to overthrow capitalism in the long term.

Also, you can be vegan and buy stuff like oatly, beyond and so on, or you can buy rice and beans. Either is better for the planet (and very much for the animals, probably also you) than meat, but the former a bit less.

Where do you make the cut though? Do basic GPU nodes count already? Do TPUs count?

Dann was vergleichst du: CO2 Emissionen oder Umweltbelastungspunkte (da hat das Auto den Nachteil, dass das Strassennetz auch nicht gerade ökologisch ist. Aber: bracuhen wir das nicht sowieso? Wenn mehr Leute das Auto statt das Flugzeug nehmen, ist die Belastung durch die Strasse pro Personenkilometer kleiner. Und und und)

Sehr vereinfacht: Bei einer Person pro Auto in etwa vergleichabr, für ein durchschnittliches Auto und durchschnittlich belegtes Flugzeug (in Bezug auf Personenkilometer).

Ich denke mir einfach, dass so ein neuer Batteriezug auch nicht ganz günstig sein wird und es besser wäre, die Batterie stationär zu haben. Dann könnte sie für alle Züge genutzt werden oder auch für anderes. Aber vlt. geht es darum, eine Übergangslösung zu haben und Emissionsvorgaben zu erreichen.

Fairerwesie muss man auch sagen, dass die Züge ja dann auch auf anderen Strecken eingesetzt werden können, welche sich wegen geringer Auslastung nicht zu elektrifizieren lohnen. Mich wunderte es hier (ohne die Region zu kennen), dass eine Strecke zwischen zwei doch relativ grossen Orten nicht eh schon elektrifiziert ist, bzw. jetzt nur mit Batterie.
