Nephew got bit by a tick while on an island in Stockholm’s archipelago. Developed a ring around the bite. Rather than have them wait for 3 hours to take the boat, or even get a taxi boat, a helicopter had him at the hospital and under care within an hour. For that and two nights in the hospital, they got charged nothing.

When he was released, he was on his way back to the helipad to get a ride back to the island and we had to explain to him that we were gonna need to get the bus/boat.

I absolutely did not eat at my desk. In fact I had way more sweets in the first role, the culture was different at the lab. I know about thermodynamics, but I don’t think it’s that simple. Moving around helps a ton with stress and digestion which affects your metabolism and insulin resistance. It’s not about moving to “burn off” fat, it’s about moving to not synthesize the fat around your organs in the first place.

  • Yes, of course ramps can be useful to people with crutches. You kinda just presented two cases, one where the person with an amputated leg gets a crutch and it sucks for them and makes them feel bad; and another where having an amputated leg doesn’t affect them thanks to other forms of accessibility, of which you named ramps. That was a weak argument.

But we were talking about whether people who can’t use pen and paper get proper accommodations or not. Now let me remind you that the context of this thread is cheating using LLMs and whether students should have access to LLMs during exam-taking or not. You have spoken in favor of such an arrangement, on account disabled students who have difficulty with pen and paper.

You wrote that some students supposedly find the available accommodations ‘demeaning’. It appears you’re trying to say that the available accommodations are “medical”, and that you’re instead proposing that all students whether they can use pen and paper or not, should have access to LLMs during exam-taking, because that would be a “social” solution and therefore your preferred alternative.

If you’re trolling, then let me congratulate you, you win. If not, please try to reflect over what hypothetical problem it is you’re trying to solve, and also how you should go about presenting your argument in the future, because it is utterly unconvincing.

  • I get the sentiment, but Iran did shoot down a passenger plane in 2020. Most of the passengers were Iranian, and 176 people were killed.

The background is that after the assassination of Qasem Soleimani in 2020 Iran responded by striking a NATO base with missiles. The whole thing was telegraphed to the NATO troops so nobody got seriously hurt (lots of concussions though). It was the first time that Iran’s missile capabilities was displayed like that, and it shocked a lot of people back then. Iranian media said it was a “proportional response”, but of course it really was very careful and underwhelming considering what had just happened.

It’s difficult to imagine now, but back then this was a major escalation and everyone was super tense. Iran did not know how NATO would respond. Apparently an air defense soldier was so nervous that in the coming hours, he misread the radar, and fired two air defense missiles at the passenger aircraft.

Obviously the plane going down took all of the power out of the messaging that Iran was a force to be reckoned with, owing to it’s missiles that had just hit the NATO base, which itself was a highly successful operation. So it really had a massively negative impact on the narrative for Iran.
