Fun fact, she invented frequency hopping for use on allied torpedoes during WWII, and it is still used in technologies like Bluetooth today.
He’s not entitled to the job; I think there are enough people in the country where we don’t have to run a real POS like Newsom.
Also, it’s theater to pretend like they care about mental health so they don’t have to do anything about mass shootings.
But mostly what you said- it’s incredibly dehumanizing, which suits their grand project of having targets to blame for their incompetence.

7·2 days agoNot to be all “well aktually,” but McCarthy headed the second Red Scare. You’re absolutely right that there is a pattern of using the government to suppress the left, I just thought it was worth pointing out that it’s been going on for as long as there has been an organized left in the US.
From Wikipedia:
The Overman Committee was a special five-man subcommittee of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary chaired by North Carolina Democrat Lee Slater Overman. First charged with investigating German subversion during World War I, its mandate was extended on February 4, 1919, just a day after the announcement of the Seattle General Strike, to study “any efforts being made to propagate in this country the principles of any party exercising or claiming to exercise any authority in Russia” and “any effort to incite the overthrow of the Government of this country”. The Committee’s hearings into Bolshevik propaganda, conducted from February 11 to March 10, 1919, developed an alarming image of Bolshevism as an imminent threat to the U.S. government and American values. The Committee’s final report appeared in June 1919.

THE POLICE PROBLEM•Grandmother files lawsuit, saying her arrest was staged for reality TV showEnglish
7·2 days agoThe sheriff’s office wrote on social media the show was an opportunity to “share a glimpse into the commitment and sacrifice of the men and women who proudly serve this community” while acting with “professionalism, compassion, and dedication.”
That’s a funny way to say “exploit the poor and disadvantaged as propaganda for a powerful authoritarian right-wing paramilitary.” I’m sure this lady was so dangerous that they just had to keep her cuffed in a car for four hours fresh out of shoulder replacement surgery.
For all the piggies knew, they could have replaced her armpit with a vice, after all.

3·6 days agoI took the kids to see this one. It was fantastic: good music and a compelling take on the Orpheus and Eurodice myth. Patrick Page has an amazing bass voice, and Amber Gray stole the show as Persephone.

Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes@lemmy.zip•[Discussion] Which Soulslike will you be playing this weekend and do we really need Bloodborne 2?English
7·6 days agoI’ve been working my way through Demon’s Souls on my Steam Deck. It runs perfectly, I’m very impressed with the folks who made RPCS3. I got connected to the Archstones private server too, so I can get a little bit of the online experience— bloodstains and messages, mostly.
It’s amazing how much of the Soulslike formula had already been worked out in the very first game. It feels very much like playing Dark Souls, and while not quite as polished it is still very fun.
I’ve beaten the Phalanx, now I’m poking around at the other locations.

He’s been among the most racist and bigoted losers on the site since I’ve been here, and I’m not about to forget now that he’s trying to pretend otherwise.
You must not remember how it was in 2006 when the reactionary morons tried to distance themselves from W.
Go on, ask how he feels about ICE.
