How can someone with such high qualifications be this stupid?
When I first started in healthcare, I thought this all the damn time. You go in expecting doctors to be all around better/smarter people than the rest of us. Like, they made it through medical school, right? Surely they can think critically about things like politics, or apply their medical knowledge to basic practices like hygiene… or at least figure out how to drive around that one corner of the parking garage without risking a 3-car pile up.
Nope, nope, and fuckin NOPE!
Most of them are genuinely brilliant in the scope of their own specialty, but outside of that very specific bubble, they’re the same dumbass monkeys as the rest of us.

Yeah that’s where my head went too. I’ve dealt with a pretty middle-of-the-road amount of hardship… wasn’t born with a silver spoon up my ass or anything, but no Hollywood-esque trauma arch either. Still, looking back over even just the past decade, there’s a lot more bad than good popping into my brain.
And the cool part? I already can’t recall details from a lot of that shit. Just fuzzy concepts that my brain has filed into the fuck-it box and now I don’t have to worry about them cuz I’m literally incapable! Woohoo!
Being fully conscious of all that, all the time… that would absolutely destroy my mental health. Fuck that!

We did kind of deep dive on malaria research in nursing school - iirc the conditions for both that species of mosquito and the virus itself are a pretty narrow window of overlap for them to each thrive.
We had a hypothesis taking that and climate change into account, that as the globe heats up we’re going to see rates take a dip closer to the equator, but the effected region will expand north, and really pick up once it starts to hit Europe.
The next few decades are going to be wild from a disease standpoint.

How can there be earning back respect?
Major political reform, modelled after the more functional parts of the world. Emphasis on a rewrite of the Constitution with protections built in against domestic enemies like Trump. And functional checks and balances. And cultural denazification.
I don’t really see it happening either.

You can have things like free speech and actual political representation here, you just need to be rich first.

Dark Souls.
Got Dark Souls II to see what the hype was about, and 100%-ed it cuz I was post-surgery with nothing better to do.
Fast forward, and a friend gifted me Elden Ring, so, here we go again.
It’s famous difficulty was just a combo of clunky controls and obnoxious health pools, which made mastering that type of difficulty really unsatisfying.
I gitted gud, but Dark Souls never gitted fun.
Same applies to Souls-likes.
I really wanted to believe. Fucking love the aesthetic, but that’s about the only positive I can recall.

Murican here. If we’re going to learn from our fuck around phase, the find out phase needs to hurt.
Like an alcoholic waking up to a hangover from hell and vowing to never let that happen again, that hangover could be the best thing that’s ever happened to the addict.
The more our president throws his tantrums, the more we should be shunned, isolated, and ignored by the rest of the planet. Politically and financially.
To the non-muricans here, sorry for being such a shitty neighbor. I look forward to earning back your respect - hopefully that day comes soon, but I’m not holding my breath.
The cardinals are the pope’s fledglings, right? I think he’s the one puking in their mouths.
I wouldn’t say especially security guards. On the spectrum of useless on one end and malicious on the other, security guards trend toward useless while cops trend toward malicious. The latter carries a much higher potential for harm.
Security guards are also much more incentivized to deescalate since most of them are unarmed, and even the armed ones can’t expect the backing of the courts to near the extent that cops like to abuse.
I’ve only served on jury duty once, and it was kinda fucked up. Child abuse case, and we were all kinda on the fence leaning toward defendant was guilty, but the evidence presented was just absolute dogshit. Lots of reasonable doubts.
Found the dude not guilty on the premise that we’d rather let a guilty piece of shit off the hook than risk convicting someone who’s innocent, but it felt real fuckin icky to give that verdict over what was most likely just a lazy investigation by the cops.
Hope the kid turned out okay… must have absolutely zero faith in the legal system because of that.

…but what about the other witches?
Guys you can’t base your worldview on one expert’s opinion! We need peer review!

Spanish speaking dude at my last work was talking about Trump, and said something akin to “he’s got the mierdas touch!”
Mierda is the Spanish word for “shit”.
Fuckin 10/10.

Um… the, uh… well the good news is I think I know when we can schedule that meeting!
Idr if this was a feature that made it into a real OS or just a concept that never came to be, but…
I recall reading about a duress pin that instead of deleting stuff, just booted up normally… but to basically a separate user profile. From the non-duress profile you could choose features that would be shared between the two, like texts or call history of specific people, browser history, photo albums, etc.
So “sure officer, it’s 5224” would open up a phone profile that looks convincingly used, with nice long trails of cat memes and chatter with your gaming buddies about your favorite franchise enshittifying, and so on.
Punch in your real pin to unlock it though, and it’s got full access to everything, including data you want to keep private.
…and, uh, if any of you are designing a mobile OS right now, here’s your feature suggestion!
