No no, I agree we should start with the billionaires or possible trillionaires by time we actually do something.

3·4 months agoYes it’s literally illegal. But that only matters if it’s actually enforced. Which basically this whole administration has proven only liberals and immigrants actually get prosecuted on anything.
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen him with glasses. God is he a conceited asshole. IF you can’t read without glasses and you’re the President I feel like you should always have glasses on you because you know important documents could be handed to you at anytime.
AI as we have it now can’t become less energy and resource intensive. They are literally only scaling through brute force that’s why it’s destroying the computer parts industry for everyone but AI.
As for linux it’s pretty easy these days. Once you get it to boot off a USB I would be surprised if you need help at all. Been rocking it for awhile personally on CachyOS.
As INeedMana said there are some communities here as well that can probably help.

politics •Bernie Sanders and AOC introduce bill to pause building of new datacentersEnglish
2·4 months agoThe fact that China is catching up with opensource models basically proves it’s not a money problem. Competition isn’t helping us it’s just bleeding us dry of resources (power, water, and computer hardware). China has basically proven competition isn’t the most efficient way of making the best AI.

Political Discussion and Commentary•I'm putting this here just in case as it seemingly has to do with eugenics. Would you do it?English
4·4 months agoThe only thing I would personally use it for is to prevent known genetic diseases or birth defects. This is in line with a talk the wife and I had not long ago. They can now test for a lot known genetic disease pretty early in the pregnancy. We both agreed if a severe one came back on the test we would do an abortion. It’s just nothing something we can probably handle properly, and I don’t want to bring a child into this already harsh world that is made even harder for them.

65·4 months agoI don’t understand how requiring federal agents to show their face while working in an official capacity unless the situation requires to be covered for safety reasons is controversial. If they aren’t doing anything illegal, why do they feel the need to cover up like robbers?

61·4 months agoThe difference is LMDE uses debian and its packages as a base while the “cinnamon” edition uses Ubuntu as a base. I believe they both actually use cinnamon as the DE.
It’s more of a just in case because a lot of the linux community isn’t like Conical lately.

20·4 months agoAt this rate I’ll be surprised if OpenAI is around in 5 years. They’re not only bleeding regular users but now corporate contracts. I hope all the AI blows up and the bubble pops. No better time than when everything else is going to shit anyway.

1·4 months agoAlright thank you for the quick response. And a short delay is more than reasonable. I’ll probably make sure I’m coming relatively regularly before making a possibly dead community.

2·4 months agoSo what happens if there duplicate communities? Like I see there is a LOTRO community on Lemmy but it and and the mod for it seem to be pretty in active. Can I make a lotro community here? Or is there a way to become the mod of the lemmy instance?

Basically all the addons for the game are on there. You can also find an addon manager. I feel both could use work but it’s what we got.

Potentially I honestly don’t follow it enough. They might use Debian testing or some for newer packages.
