    The article does not explain why it should be considered a femicide, or am I missing something? Unless “victim was female” and “victim and suspect knew each other” automatically means it’s a femicide. Isn’t a homicide only a femicide if the victim being a woman is the reason it happened?

      According to Sherele Moody’s Australian Femicide Watch, the woman is the 36th Australian woman killed so far in 2026 and we are only just past the halfway mark. Last year, 79 Australian women were killed.

      Seems like they are simple counting all women that have been killed.
