It definitely is. Part of why I like miniseries more than standalone movies for deep stories. You can do a lot more in eight or nine hour and a half episodes than one 2 and a half hour movie. And with all of the flashbacks in the book, you could have nice clean stopping points for a miniseries, and really go into detail on those.
