The short term preservation of liquidity in the face of collapse allowed investors and the richest Canadians to leverage their assets against existing inequality, snatching up as much as they could afford to, and then extract increasing profits from those investments over time. Now landlords are engaging in open collusion to drive up rents using the figleaf of services like Realpage, with regulators asleep at the wheel. Liberals find evidence of grocery giants price gouging almost every single Canadian and dole out a slap on the wrist and a fine that pales in comparison to the profit of their actions. Business as usual.
