I would really rather not. Fuck establishment picks and family dynasties
We need progress

7·6 days agoThe point of the AI slop / random pointless exposition is to maximize the number of ads a user has to scroll past to see the actual recipe. What incentive would a website have to put that at the bottom?
It literally isn’t racism though. You can disagree with it and think it should be banned, but there is no interpretation that it can realistically be called racism
I lived in Japan for a while. I’ve seen a couple places with a sign like this. In my experience every place like this is perfectly willing to have foreigners that speak Japanese. They simply don’t want to deal with the hassle of a language barrier
I should also note these places were always in touristy areas. If they don’t have a sign like that, they’ll end up with majority English speaking customers, because Japanese customers prefer places without rowdy tourists that can’t speak the local language. I did too. Going out for an after work beer, you want an entirely different atmosphere from tourists getting hammered

2·6 days agoHow can they use AI for an engineering review? Wouldn’t an actual licensed engineer have to sign off on the building?

2·6 days agoNo, it shouldn’t. AI being used to make a Weekly Action Report is actually a good use case
This slop journalism is a problem though. Entire article is bullshit

News@lemmy.world•ICE’s New Detention Center Contracts Declare State Laws ‘Shall Not Apply’
22·6 days agoThat’s so much worse than I thought from the headline
It’s part of an effort to prevent the state from inspecting the facilities. It took years for a judge to rule that the state does have the right, as should be obvious, now they’re doing this along with getting thebjudgement suspended for review
They are successful at this point. They’re running these concentration camps with no oversight

Just embarrassing for the US. American ignorance and laziness on full display

5·6 days agoDozens of people have been killed in retribution for the writing, publishing, and translating of this book. Either as direct targets, or collateral damage from assassination attempts
Religious people are fucking insane. Christians and Muslims both called for the suspension of free speech to ban the book, across many countries. As far as I saw, the murders were all carried out by Muslims

14·6 days agoIf you’re O- you’re going to be begged to donate for the rest of your life now
An O- friend of mine donated blood ~10 years ago before learning he can get paid for plasma donations. 10 years of regular plasma donations (and no blood donations), he still gets monthly calls asking him to donate blood
Gotta make ends meet though. Free cookies and juice don’t pay rent
Scientifically, yes. Culinarily, no

Battery was produced in South Korea. Can you substantiate your claim South Korea is employing slave and child labor? Ensure you have a source substantiating both
I find child labor unlikely, but plausible, but slave labor in South Korean battery factories? I doubt it
I don’t disagree with that sentiment, but I would assert the people still have the ability to stop the untra-wealthy, and the idea we’re helpless bystanders only serves the ultra-wealthy

Production costs haven’t gone up for anyone. It’s purely a supply issue, as production has been entirely halted for ~18% of the world’s oil
