What you describe is being used by now. The permanent eye-tracking got low-level support on Snapdragon SoCs by 2023 (Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, “Sensing Hub”), the Honor Magic 6 phone advertised itself as able to “open apps by looking at them”; those desperate fucks really tried to sell this as a good thing to users. Though even this article eventually spilled the beans:

“Content Personalization: Adapt news feeds based on the focus and duration of your gaze.”

They want you to think this is a good thing, but it’s clearly dystopian. And already 3 years old, so by now they certainly found even more ways to make everyone miserable & manipulated.

The Google Assistant famously still listened to the microphone and uploaded data even if you tried to stop it, so I genuinely always recommend everyone to either flash your phone with GrapheneOS, CalyxOS, /e/OS or iodéOS immediately or throw it away. Modern mainline phones are a health hazard.

  • As long as they’re not routed through main commute hubs. Where I live (near a major german city, so there indeed is at least something) all the bus connections to the closest subway station of the city are routed over a small portion of a major street. That alone causes massive delays every morning and often also in the evening when everyone pours in- and out of the city in their gas guzzlers.

I’m very much for having waaay more (semi-subway) trains even in rural areas. Even if it’s just small ones that never exceed 50kmh or something, having a trustworthy schedule would be worth it. Connect every milk can! (After giving it 5G)

Hard disagree. But feel free to tell me how your attempt of stopping to fund all of that goes, surely you know how to do that without joining the Amish and being on the run from your countries’ tax agency.

You can’t even realistically avoid Nestlé and all its smaller brands (way too many). Stop blame the fucking people for the mess of the different power structures we were all born in, it’s nobodies fault but those in charge of those systems. Which is not us, systemically. Nobody is “funding” this crap, everyone’s forced into it. Welcome to fucking capitalism.

  • Apparently (I’m not a scholar but was curious) in dire situations that require immediate action they could’ve prayed while helping out, even shortening it out as long as the short (verbal?) prayer is done in honesty and the situation absolutely demands it. Apparently it’s even outright disallowed to not safe yourself or others during life-and-death situations even if it prevents you from the mandatory prayer because preserving people’s lifes and your own tops those rules, at least that’s what I read so far. If that boat story is actually true that person probably was a dipshit who happened to break his own religion’s rules.

Also looked up fasting: There seems to be even more leeway on that. Just do it later if you can’t do it right now due to illness or similar, or pay “fidyah” (give poor people money for food). Though I’m kinda curious how it’s handled when someone is too old to fast but also poor as fuck, not a situation where you’d want to also feel guilty about this.

  • The Linux community could be studied for why people are so ignorant towards their own abilities; once they learned it many of them forget how skilled they’ve actually become and expect everyone else to also get on their level, or at least to aim for it (and those who don’t shall stay on Windows. Fuck, I despise that sentiment).

Surely it would be correct to say that many Linux distros are by now friendlier to the user than Windows (not that hard given how hostile Windows is). But for them to truly be easier they still miss at a minimum:

    • More PCs with it as a pre-installed option
    • A full pre-installed GUI config suite (incl. Bootloader, systemd, all of it)
    • Self-healing routines. Right now more and more ship with snapshots, but a failed update can still induce bootloops that require manual intervention
    • Nvidia drivers that work as reliable as AMDs for everyone (please don’t comment “but works for me”, I know some of you got lucky)

I like the notion, don’t think it’s true though. Empathy, love and tolerance is something you also have to learn, some people need more guidance with it than others and bad parenting can almost permanently fuck up people in that regard (almost; it’s always possible to learn later, just takes more work). It’s also a muscle you have to always keep healthy to not grow weak and suffer an infection like xenophobia, transphobia and such. Sometimes those infections even grow and lurk in the shadow of your best intention.

A lot of indigenous cultures have a lot of wisdom in this regard from which the arrogant “developed” societies keep refusing to learn (because it doesn’t fit either the >200 year old school systems, nor the ultra-competitive nature it teaches, nor the “nuclear family” bullshit). At least that’s my impression.

  • A healthy social / family system would distribute that burden to more people, but for some reason our broken western christian idea was to atomise society so everyone’s far away from each other (and feels alone), then force the two parents to both have to work (if there are two) while also making commercial help (Nanny) unaffordable for most people. More than two of course is forbidden.

There’d always be time for stuff if e.g. just three couples from a family lived under a roof / next to eath other (e.g. grandparents, parents, cousin). Just a garbage culture that builds shitty homes with zero incentive or help to live close together, shitty infrastructure and has shitty ideas about the “nuclear family”. It’s not the child.
