I feel like that was a cool and unique enough mark for original subreddit to give it a different vibe than most other communities with similar intent.
It also helps standardizing the titling format just enough to make it less confusing and clearer when reading them. Now that there is a brand new modding team I feel like this could be a good thing to add here

Pros: Posts are more obvious when you’re browsing posts from multiple communities. It helps reinforce/remind what tone replies should take.

That seems like a cool idea to me. I follow a lot of “general question” communities and it is a little hard to distinguish them sometimes. It’d be nice to have a unique marker.
I have no idea how to mod in this site, but on Reddit you could just put an automatic filter that either doesn’t even let you post or instantly blocks your post if it doesn’t meet the required criteria or specific keywords.
At least in the rules there is a thing even for the “Today I learned” sub and the “You Should Know” on Lemmy, so… worse come to worse we could just ask their mods how did they implement it?
Fully agreed. The mods will add this as a rule but probably not enforce it super aggressively. Unlike things like abuse and spam, the downsides of not adding a tag is that you’ll invite lower quality responses. We can look at some kind of automation if the community really grows.
I’m always most concerned about moderator burnout, but If you’re willing to do it, I think it’d be an improvement.
i think its a solid addition. like you mentioned, it does help distinguish posts more quickly to know what sub the post belongs to. As long as its not a ton of work for the mods.
I’m in favor. I don’t really care whether we do things the same way as in Reddit but sometimes I start typing a reply to a thread without noticing which community it’s in. Having ELI5 in the title makes it immediately clear what kind of responses are wanted.
That said, if the rule is implemented, I don’t think it’s necessary to start enforcing it strictly right away. It’s not that big of a deal if someone forgets the rule. That way it wouldn’t create any extra work for the mods.
In the mod system there probably is an easy way to make a constant, automated rule and allow post to be published only if certain criteria are met

It would probably be possible to enforce this with a bot (with moderator rights) that deletes all posts that don’t match the rule, but I don’t have the resources to operate something like that.
I would like it as a peruser of all. I can noticed its from the community but if its in the title I know right away.

At first I thought that seemed unnecessary, but I subscribe to a lot of “question” communities, and knowing right from the start that I’m reading something from ELI5, would let me know the context of the question I’m reading.
Whether or not that’s worth forcing title formats, I can’t say for certain.
I do like it for the reasons you mentioned. Enforcement obviously is more work for mods but the consequences can be less severe. Since we can edit titles here a simple reminder ought to be enough for most cases.
