Actual woke is opening your proverbial third eye to see what’s really going on around you, making you based.

Ironic woke is jokingly calling someone/something woke that is clearly not woke, but think they are woke. In reality, the person being referenced is probably getting their opinions from the hive mind of public consensus like most people, but a different hive mind that makes them THINK they’re enlightened and woke.

Trump 2.0 era woke is “anything the most diabolical far right supporter doesn’t like or makes them slightly uncomfortable” which is just about everything.

Politically correct aligns closest to ironic woke because it relies on consensus on what is deemed “unprofessional” or “offensive”. It’s not inherently a bad thing though, generally it comes at least partially from a standpoint of wanting to express oneself in a constructive and respectful way, such as avoiding outdated terminology like “negro” or “retarded” which we should all do at this point despite them being the preferred politically correct term at one point. For this reason it ranks slightly higher on the morality scale than ironic woke, which is often motivated by acting morally superior and smug. But political correctness can go too far, and often leads to it being politically incorrect to criticize certain groups at all, which is not actual woke.

Being actually woke is aware of REALITY, even if it is controversial to bring up certain things, and therefore ranks the highest.

Trump 2.0 era woke is meaningless as a term, since Trump supporters have no sense of either reality or irony, and is thus impossible to rank.

Not saying this is OP specifically or anything, but I have long suspected that some fellow humans just aren’t as…conscious/sapient as the rest of us. Like literal NPCs. It would explain a lot. No I’m not talking about anything race or eugenics related, not going there at ALL. Just sometimes I’ve met people and wondered “…did we grow up on the same planet?”

6th gen. PS2 was the cheapest DVD player, DVDs were a huge upgrade from VHS. It was a grest “single console”, anything that was on multiple consoles would be on PS2. More great exclusives than any other console except for the SNES when most games were exclusive, some all time greats. Native backwards compatible with the previously best selling console of all time.

And then there is everything else. The GameCube has many of the greatest entries in long running Nintendo series, and therefore the greatest games of all time. It was a strong comeback in tech after N64. One of the best controllers ever, people still use it.

Xbox had crazy good hardware for the time, it was more 6.5 gen. It basically invented the concept of a home theater PC. While the Duke isn’t exactly the best Xbox controller, it was a good first stab at focusing on ergonomics, especially for adults. A lot less exclusives than the previous two, but a respectable amount, and a crazy hard hitting top 5 that you could play endlessly. Because of the tech and coming out slightly later with new content, it usually has the definitive version of third party games. The first console with fully formed online and plenty of games to get people out of their comfort zone to try it.

Dreamcast is here too kinda. More 5.5 gen in practice, but certainly closer to 6 tech wise, it is probably more powerful than PS2. 6th gen was good at unique experiences, and Dreamcast is the epitome of this. So many strange games that somehow work really well. Excellent arcade ports during a time when that was relevant and some GOAT fighting games were releasing.

For the generation as a whole, it was a HUGE graphical jump, but not that much more difficult to program than 5th gen. Production values also took a big jump, people were realizing that video games were a more legitimate thing, which largely ptevented unforgivably horrid voice acting common for 5th gen, but neither were companies spending millions on famous actors or motion capture. Performance was the biggest jump, going from plenty of games doing a (not even steady) 20 FPS to 60 FPS being the new standard. Not always, some stuff was a locked 30 or unlocked 30 usually averaging 30 only on lows. Honestly the next 2 gens had less 60 FPS games than 6th gen. Because of these things, we got a LOT more games than we’re used to now with a LOT more quality control and content than previous gens. Online was possible on everything but GameCube, but not pushed to much to the point it takes over and micro transactions began, or rely on endless patches, not having the full game on the disk, or releasing a broken game to maybe finish later. The main course was in your hands and runs on your machine that you own, and the older I get, the more I prefer that. Wireless controllers were a thing if you wanted to pay a little extra. Every console had a strong visual identity. Look at the boot up screen and menus for all 4 consoles, but especially PS2 and Xbox. Then look at PS5 and Xbox Series. Are they even different besides seeing a bit more blue or green? Boring. Ads. No cool effects to get you hyped for the game.

I could probably go on but yeah it’s 6the gen for sure. You could basically play good 6th gen games the rest of your life.

It is not about people’s lives being privileges, I resent you saying that. I thought I made it clear that I support trans people and do not tolerate bigotry. Everyone matters. Even if in a theoretical situation “just” 1% of the population is getting genocided, it is still genocide. I don’t value you or anyone else less than anyone else. I simply disagree with your premise, which I believe to be a false dichotomy. The statistics do indeed say there is a higher percentage of suicide rates for trans people. And why is that? In my opinion from looking at the evidence, I do not believe it is primarily or even very much at all related to bottom surgery being expensive. A lot of trans people are not even interested in that at all. It is because trans people are under a spotlight and a microscope, often scapegoated, and it really wears on somebody to be hated all the time and not know where it is safe to be themselves. And why is there such a spotlight? Part of it will always be bigots and right wing politicians deflecting blame. But part of it is self inflicted.

And that’s what I mean by the “taking over spaces” part of my comment. You are perfectly welcome in Lemmy as far as I concerned. You shouldn’t have to “hide” that you’re trans or avoid talking about issues that concern you. That’s not what I’m trying to say.

Think about it like this: imagine the trans spam was literally anything else. Say like…it was about India. I have Indian friends and coworkers, Indian food is great, Hinduism is kinda foreign to me but I find the concept and ethos very interesting, traditional Indian clothing is pretty and cool. Positive opinions, neutral at worst. Now imagine if Indian people refused to shut up about India. I think you can imagine people would start to have more negative opinions on Indian people if this were the case, or at the very least find them immature. Except this actually makes a lot more sense because there are literally a billion of them, and there are nowhere near that amount of trans people.

This, combined with the false dichotomy makes the movement come off as immature teenagers to a lot of people. I have not found that to be the case from trans people i know in real life, but that is the perception.

Even if I were to believe the false dichotomy of “pay for trans surgeries with taxpayer money or trans people will die”, that’s not any more convincing than it was when my ex girlfriend threatened to kill herself if we broke up. Me having sex with her is not healthcare because of her potential actions. I think it is important to be precise with language. And to be clear, I would vote for covering trans stuff with universal healthcare if it got on the ballot, as long as there were legal protections from something like a mentally ill parent forcing transitioning on their child.

Lastly, you say “politically convenient” as if I’m running for office. As previously mentioned, people die every day because they can’t afford healthcare, and it’s only getting worse. I know someone who divorced his wife so she won’t have to pay his medical bills after he got cancer. After burning through his life savings that he worked hard on and made sacrifices for, for THIRTY YEARS. Not only does he not get to enjoy any of the money he saved by working overtime, but he can’t even die young in peace knowing that his wife will be supported. He now has to worry that debt collectors will sue her after his death if they suss out that their divorce was due to debt. That is dystopian, a nightmare. And that is not “my problem vs your problem”. It can happen to you. And it is probably more likely to happen to you, as transitioning can be hard on your body. I’m not a fan of politics, I just recognize the reality. To some, people, being trans is an affront on god himself. It sure is stupid, but they will vote against their own self interest just to spite you. There is no universe where we will be able to jump to “trans people should get whatever they define as healthcare paid for by someone else.” from absolutely nothing being covered. Not anymore than we should have campaigned Frederick Douglas for president of the United States before we, you know, got rid of slavery. Could he have been a good president in a vacuum? Yes, he was an intelligent and wise person. But you knowing that, and me knowing that doesn’t mean it would have been a good idea. And NOTHING exists in a vacuum. Ever.

That is very surprising, last I heard it had to catch up with having popular applications. Is this due to how package dependencies differ on Nix vs what people think of traditionally as packages?

Yeah I get some good RPMs on my 2001 Honda Civic.

Yeah doing standard computer stuff is great, though the limitations start to hurt if it is a personal device. Some odd design decisions too like the Settings menu being unforgivably bad and unmaximizable for no reason, Finder being always open which messed with my OCD, a few other things. For hardware the prices for increased storage or RAM are highway robbery and can’t be done yourself. Plus I’m pretty into open source and Linux is more customizable. That being said, Homebrew is pretty great these days, and Little Snitch or an open source equivalent does a good job of blocking telemetry so I could probably make it work if I had to.

I’ve gotta say, as a long time Apple hater, it is not bad these days, especially with their incredible hardware at the best value per dollar they’ve ever had. I use my Mac as much as possible at work when Windoes isn’t absolutely required (I’m not allowed to use Linux)

Nothing wrong with GUI but yeah there are a lot of resources. I don’t know if I can point you to any because I usually just web search the command for the thing I want to do and add it to a long running note of Linux commands

The first thing I would try is booting from a live USB, mounting the old install, regenerating inframfs then update GRUB from terminal (it may or may not let you from terminal in the GRUB menu also)
