Growing up I used to pretend to be a dog named Kimmy. Not terribly amused when my dad decided to name his cat Kimmy 20 years later but here we are.
25 years and my life is still trying to get up that great big hill of hope for a destination…
25 is a breeze, enjoy your time! Trust, it gets better and better. (The aging part at least, not so sure about the world part lol)

I tried to use the login to cancel my donation but it wouldn’t send me the link so I just cancelled through my payment method. I know they have donate@wikimedia email but that seems to be a help desk and I imagine we’d want to send an email to someone who is more in charge.

Meh, it’s debatable but I IMO if it’s majority foreign owned, it’s not canadian. Looking more into it as I hadn’t read about it in a while:
The company’s headquarters are in Toronto, but 3G Capital [Brazilian company] remains the biggest player with a 32% stake, meaning major decisions are influenced from beyond Canada’s borders. Src
Either way I just don’t care for nationalism, so I should have clarified: I don’t want shitty coffee just because it claims to be Canadian. I’m annoyed that they use nationalism as a part of their branding and it’s pretty much the only thing that has held them up as their quality has gotten worse and worse in the last 20 or 30 years.
My mom worked at Tim’s when I was a kid, they made everything in house and fresh. I worked at Tim’s as a teenager, we made some stuff in house but mostly it came frozen and we reheated it in essentially giant microwaves. As I was leaving, even the muffins (which were the last of the ‘fresh’ items) were being switched to frozen garbage.
Then there was the whole thing with them losing their coffee contracts to McD’s - so McDonald’s actually had the better tasting Tim’s coffee and Tim Horton’s coffee got truly shit.
Idk sorry about the rant, I just truly do not see the value in that company.
Well there’s a dark and depressing thought.
It is but it makes me sad that artists have to do that now or else get immediately accused of AI.
Not mad at the artists or at the people who can’t tell what’s AI or not. Just, fuck AI lol.
Well, bad food and shitty coffee lol. But actually, they were bought out by an American company years ago (taco bell I think?) and keep portraying themselves as this great Canadian company. It’s just gross and I try not to purchase from shitty companies.
Also, as a general rule because I am lucky enough to live in a town full of great coffee shops, I just prefer local.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Albertans can pay for MRIs and other tests without a doctor's referral, as of Friday
15·5 days agoGovernment like the ones in Alberta are actively and very intentionally working to privatize health care so they would never go for this.
I mean, I was boycotting them already but I’ll boycott them harder.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is life really as awful as politics and the Internet make it out to be?
1·5 days agoNot the types of places I’m talking about, but yes I run a grassroots organization, volunteer with several others and have also volunteered at bigger non-profits for many years. I can see where you’re coming from at non-profit orgs but when you’re in a completely volunteer run organization, depending on what it is, it’s absolutely a different environment. Yes, there’s always interpersonal conflict, but you move on because you have to. And of course there’s burnout but that’s why you take breaks.
As foe the mental health thing, its the only thing that pulled me out of a deep depression and I have other friends that have said the same. If it’s not right for you, it’s not right for you, but for some people it works.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is life really as awful as politics and the Internet make it out to be?
21·6 days agoYou know where you can find people who generally don’t suck and are less likely to be shallow capitalist boogers? Organizing spaces. Find someone doing something good locally. Get into social spaces that are “woke” where people are awesome and accommodating to mental health concerns and generally just want to make the world a better place. Importantly, make sure you find local folks and get out of the internet a bit.
It’s getting two birds stoned at once, you do something good in this world that is, for the most part, going to shit, and you also gain friends, make nice memories, and hopefully start to heal.
If y’all don’t wanna know me, don’t follow ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Three Israeli citizens facing conscription into the Israel Defense Forces have been granted the right to reapply for protection visas in Australia, after a government tribunal found they held a genuine fear they would be forced to break international humanitarian law in Gaza.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do pedophile/ephebophile s have a tendency to seek out friendships or romantic relationships with young adults as well as with minors?
4·11 days agoI’ve only ever heard it used by comedians explaining how knowing the difference makes you sound like a pedophile, so I must be seeing the right crowd.

Mainstream news outlets are capitalist garbage, even the so called left leaning ones. I have such a hard time with them now.
