If you’re wondering why I’m crossposting .ml content or for an account listing of accounts used for it, please see the bottom of this megathread

You can check bio for a listing of accounts used for the .ml boycott/crossposting campaign (with the exception of the lemy.lol account, it’s been removed from rotation but I havent updated post yet)

    Context:

Why am I cross-posting .ml content?

I cross-post from .ml to the nearest relevant non-.ml comm to reduce the influence of .ml comms and indirectly, the instance as a whole, to help vitilize non-.ml comms and make it an easier decision for other instance admins to defederate because one key reason I identified that admins don’t want to defederate is because .ml still has some very large comms and some active niche comms.

    Megathread on the issue

    Some highlights from the link:

Dessalines, head .ml admin, lead Lemmy dev actively spreading genocide denialism https://sh.itjust.works/post/61371958

.ml admin, Nutomics continued transphobia https://lemmy.world/post/29222558 The original transphobic Comment from Nutomic: https://lemmy.world/post/18236068

“If you don’t support Russia then you just don’t understand geopolitics” ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/27352415

"Don’t worry guys, the Uyghur Genocide was REALLY just birth control! ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/30580167

“See! nobody died IN Tiananmen Square, just AROUND it, so it doesn’t count!!” ~ Davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/30673342

“NK is actually good and anything counter to that is Western propaganda!” ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/31595035

General negative sentiment to other instances who haven’t “seen the way” yet ~davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/27426510

And so so much documentation on clear heavy handed censorship and bias also on the link. So much I can’t even put them all here because this comment would be really long.

I believe the behavior of its admins (the main admins are Lemmy devs) does harm to the overall growth of the Lemmy-verse and maybe even the Thrediverse (since Lemmy kinda kicked off the Thrediverse) because of its association with the devs of Lemmy and their insistence to use .ml as their personal political platform to spread harmful propaganda

On the outside, bringing up Lemmy frequently leads to comments like “Lemmy? Isn’t that the place with a bunch of tankies?” Or “Tried Lemmy, but found it full of pro Russia crap so I left”. The best way forward from that I see is to either widely defederate from .ml like the rest of the Triad, or pressure them to put a fair and unbiased as possible admin team.

    Reasons for multiple accounts

    1. Promoting smaller instances, because of the volume of my posting it helps makes smaller instances more recognizable
    2. Making comms on fitting smaller instances (e.g. a programming comm id make on programming.dev)
    3. Mitigating against the imposter problem
    4. Better interconnecting smaller instances

Oh it’s you lol yea I saw you in the modlog when I was perusing, that was davel pretty, much the #2 enforcer of .ml

I thought it was probably something along what you described and I wanted to make a post on !meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works on it, but there was really no way for me to tie it back in an evidentiary-way like I do for all my other posts

similar instances to block, and/or yet another alternative to Reddit/Lemmy.

Hexbear and grad are way worse than .ml, but also means .world defederates from them already (and a lot of the Threadiverse network)

As far as right-wing instances go, the most prominent one I think currently is HilariousChaos (HC is like ExplodingHeads reborn. They basically did a .ml and try to keep it more subtle (EH is to grad/hex as HC is to .ml)) that is also still federated with world last I checked

ETA: oh and also that was a site ban you got (the whole getting banned from every comm thing is actually a workaround for a federation bug)

    So you win an award!

I do in most cases, text only posts though do require a slightly different approach that avoids direct linking to a .ml comm, hence the user tag.

That actually didn’t make sense, but I haven’t really kept up with Pepes history, so I looked it up

No, it was never supposed to be nor did it during its initial rise in popularity, those shit bags are trying to steal it, and the original creator hates what they try to appropriate it for

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepe_the_Frog

originally an apolitical character in Furie’s works and its original internet popularity, Pepe was appropriated from 2015 onward as a symbol of the alt-right white nationalist movement.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) included Pepe in its hate symbol database in 2016, but said most instances of Pepe were not used in a hate-related context.

Since then, Furie has expressed his dismay at Pepe being used as a hate symbol and has sued organizations for doing so; the history of Pepe and Furie’s attempt to dissociate the character from the alt-right were covered in the 2020 documentary film Feels Good Man.

In 2019, Pepe was used by protesters in the 2019–2020 Hong Kong protests; conversely to its western political use, Pepe the Frog’s symbolism in Hong Kong is not perceived as being connected with alt-right ideology, and was welcomed by Furie.

    [~]

In May 2016, Olivia Nuzzi of The Daily Beast wrote that there was “an actual campaign to reclaim Pepe from normies” and that “turning Pepe into a white nationalist icon” was an explicit goal of some on the alt-right.

    [~]

In an interview with Esquire, Furie said of Pepe’s usage as a hate symbol, “It sucks, but I can’t control it more than anyone can control frogs on the Internet”.

Fantagraphics Books, Furie’s publisher, issued a statement condemning the “illegal and repulsive appropriations of the character”.

The Anti-Defamation League, an American organization opposed to antisemitism, included Pepe in its hate symbol database but wrote that most instances of Pepe were not used in a hate-related context.

Writing in Time on October 13, 2016, Furie said that “I understand that it’s out of my control, but in the end, Pepe is whatever you say he is, and I, the creator, say that Pepe is love.”

The next day, the ADL announced that it had partnered with Furie to launch the #SavePepe (or “Save Pepe”) campaign, an attempt to associate the symbol with positivity.

As part of that campaign, Furie collected hundreds of “positive or peaceful” versions of Pepe to store in an online “Peace Pepe Database of Love”. On October 17, 2016, Furie published a satirical take of Pepe’s appropriation by the alt-right movement on The Nib.

Lol they actually do make “universal” remotes with oodles of buttons that work with all the standard streaming boxes

I picked up a used Sony TV (Android TV) and the standard remote is what you’d expect, but it didn’t come with it so I decided to see if there was one with buttons I could buy instead when I was looking for it’s replacement

Imagine my surprise when there was lmao

I also saw some for Rokus and firetvs

  • It is rare, but does happen (and absolutely not to a degree where it’s acceptable to immediately dismiss an accusation) and if there was ever a case for it to actually happen

The allegations of misconduct against Khan have unfolded against the backdrop of the prosecutor’s efforts to pursue an investigation against Israeli officials over alleged war crimes committed by Israeli forces in Gaza and other occupied Palestinian territories.

Khan sought arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and then defence minister Yoav Gallant in May 2024, and the court has faced a ferocious campaign by Israel and its allies, primarily the US, attempting to pressure him to drop the investigation.

Since February 2025, US President Donald Trump’s administration has imposed financial and visa sanctions on Khan, his two deputy prosecutors, six judges, the UN’s special rapporteur on Palestine, and three Palestinian NGOs in connection with the Israel-Palestine investigation.

This would be it, the guy was an enemy in Israel’s eyes, it wouldn’t be a stretch that they’d set something like this up lol
