rotting rotting

26 is when i came out. what’s up with that meme?
anyways, i think seeing yourself as “cis” is… idk about normal, but it happens. the thought “i am a man” is sort of implied to be “i am a cis man”. what i’m trying to say is, i get it
but the snag in there is that you begin to associate cisness with masculinity. men have low pitched voices, bigger muscles, etc. a lot of stuff provided by elevated levels of testosterone
and the truth of the matter is that, men are more complex and nuanced than that. there are men with endocrine disorders, men who just have bad luck in the gym or don’t like working out. and of course, there are… trans men
and that means there are men who are short, men who sound like a girl, men who have feminine sexual characteristics. men who are perceived as women or non-binary
none of these things make you less of a man. being a man does not come with a guaranteed type of body
and you might say, that doesn’t help with the dysphoria. and i could write about how a voice that is perceived as masculine does not necessarily have to be deep, but the way the voice resonates in your head and the way words are spoken, the rate they’re spoken at, the places they’re emphasized, are different when one is trying to sound masculine specifically, to help you
(this is about all i know about the subject, but should give you a good starting point for studying how men speak)
but the point is that, you’re not having these problems because you’re a girl, or because you’re invalid because your body is different
there are, shitty, yes, but relatively normal problems to have if you’re a man in an AFAB body
it’s still going to suck, you’re still going to be dysphoric and being misgendered is still going to suck
the point i’m trying to make, i guess, is that, if the entire world is going to have trouble perceiving you as a man, do yourself the favor of at least seeing yourself as a man
separate the concept of yourself, as a man, from what the world perceives you to be. and expand your concept of what a man is, so that it includes you

gotchu, i also wanted to share it lol
don’t call me out… i spent around $150 to not have to spend $200 on a new controller… AND i can reuse it for other stuff! leave me alone!!!

i think the other commenters got it, mistaking testosterone gel for hair gel
fwiw i’m a trans guy and i didn’t get it. the joke i probably would have made is “8. He’s so obsessed with keeping his shoulders clean, he regularly slathers them in hand sanitizer and keeps you away from them.” every t gel i’ve ever used is almost indistinguishable from hand sanitizer lol. but maybe that’s how hair gel in the 90s worked

this is crazy good
what is the use of hair gel that’s not for hair?

way i hear it, the poor little guy starved to death…

appropriately dull update: the creature was not in my car the next day 😁

i’ve been so hurt by heteronormativity throughout my life, that being attracted to women feels like betraying a part of myself
is this just another way i’m being hurt by heteronormativity? who knows…
a really funny trait i had pre-transition was doing man nods (presenting female)
i don’t think i really processed it as a male thing till i had transitioned
looking back, i wonder if people thought i was weird for that

oh interesting, i assumed animal control would have told me to go fuck myself

i would encourage you to compare the original panel to the posted version yourself, and try to reason about it, before you read my logic
the lineart around the face is what really tipped me off, you can see the algorithm had no comprehension of what was going on with shaggy’s beard hairs. it also seems like it thickened a line that was supposed to be on his face, but made it look like an extension of his hair? this whole area was the biggest red flag for me
personally, i think the lineart the algo added just looks pretty bad, where it added lines just to block off the shading. it’s too detailed for the original drawing, and ofc the up-ressing is supposed to make it look more sophisticated, but it doesn’t do it… good, it just looks kind of wobbly and weird. i think this is something a human artist would have made much more subdued, we tend to understand that lines like this are more supposed to create a vibe rather than draw their own attention
there’s a lot of small areas where the shading is just wrong, and a lot of places it just changed the tone of what should have been a flat color for… reasons??
(specifically, the shading on the right (viewer perspective) shoulder, the color of the left thumb is pants instead of thumb, the highlighting on the hair goes down into the shaded part?? right past the line it added to mark off the shading?? lmao)
and don’t even get me started on whatever the hell is going on in the background… interestingly, the algorithm filled in the hole in the background the original artist left, in between the torso and right arm lol
overall, i’m an artist, i’ve done a lot of art and i’ve looked at a lot of art, and this image just seemed like it to me. but there was something weird about it, right? so i looked into it deeper, and was fortunate enough to find the original source. i was happy to find it, because this would have been a deeply ironic meme to generate entirely with AI (although, the up-ressing isn’t that much better, lol)
i understand that not everyone has the background i do, but that’s why i think it’s a good idea to try to discern it for yourself. i also still get caught often by generated images because i don’t usually look too deeply at something posted on here, so it’s something i’m always working on and improving at, too. it’s hard!

i think this is an AI… up-resed/colorized version of a panel from this comic, which i believe is the source https://portsherry.tumblr.com/post/175973942343/a-shaggy-and-dog-story-phew-longest-one-yet-im

well it’s hard to know without being in an environment where you can feel safe to explore, right? so find a place where you do feel safe, assess who among your family and friends could be safe, figure out how to get to a point where you can determine the answer for yourself
because i can read your post and say, yea you seem trans and like you’re just repressing it because you’re not in an accepting environment. but there are so many different ways things could shake out once you find that environment. maybe you turn out to be binary trans, maybe you turn out to be genderfluid, maybe you turn out to be… cis? alright, that’s probably not the case, but you see my point
there’s some urgency to figure things out, if you think your family could be supportive and if you would both want and have access to the appropriate hormone treatments. that’s getting more difficult by the day, unfortunately
however, aside from that, there’s no real timeline to define yourself. you are allowed to just… be what you are. the more important thing is finding the safety to express that, and, if you don’t have that immediately, then finding or working towards getting it
that might mean boring shit like figuring out a career and studying and doing well in school, so you can afford to leave home, if you need to, and get the treatments you might want down the line. not to say that you have to commit to anything, but to plan and give yourself options, so when you have more information, you also have more ability to act on it
you can also see if there are trans specific spaces in your area, or try to find a space online where you mesh with the people there. i’ve been fortunate enough to find good people on the internet, but be cautious with your personal information and slow to trust. always trust your gut instincts, as a rule, but especially for things like this
the answer to how you define yourself and “what you are” ultimately isn’t nearly as important as the space and safety to explore those things. no one can tell you who you are, but having people who accept whatever that ends up being is priceless. do your best to find those people, and everything else will work itself out
.
on the note of coping with dysphoria, i always found it helpful to remind myself that my body is a meatsuit that’s meant to move me through life, and that people are always going to make false assumptions about who i am from my appearance. those assumptions may be more false for one on average than another, but ultimately, it’s a sparing few people who will come to know our internal world with any amount of accuracy or intimacy. this phenomenon is in no way limited to being trans, so just try your best to bear the misunderstandings, and remember that someone’s impression of you doesn’t reflect or change the truth of who you are

😄😭 it’s still pretty tall… i could be a lot worse off. i’m not really interested in attracting the same crowd that most men are, anyways

rip to those poor bastards on console
i might check for people, but i was mostly throwing it out there for anyone who was looking. i have some homies i run it up with pretty regularly

mostly answered here https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/comment/21006653
sorry, idk how to do instance-agnostic links 😭
that said, i only started working out after being on testosterone for a couple of years. and in those first few years, i still got substantially bigger just from the testosterone. so i mean, the testosterone effect is real lol

i’m not really a big gym guy, my activity is largely functional, although sometimes i’m fudging it (been taking a large box of stuff on a walk, for example)
there’s some newer science showing artificial loading of weight will lead to a reduction in bodyfat, so i’ve been wearing a weighted vest. between that and walking a lot, i have lost a lot of bodyfat but also built substantial muscle because… i’m heavier
so maybe something like that could help you get workouts in?
i’ve been thinking about making an /r/menslib equivalent, but i really don’t have the time to dedicate to it… 😩 still, if that’s something you want, there’s no better way to get it than to organize it
