This currently isn’t and in the long run is extremely unlikely to be a viable Wikipedia alternative, for a myriad of reasons. Perhaps it could be an alternative to Fandom/Wikia, IMO it may be more worthwhile to lean into that option instead.

What they’re going to demand is preventing arbitrary layoffs, less bullying in the workspace, etc. Supposedly the Foundation is very toxic workplace. It’s not (just) about the money.

Don’t abandon Wikipedia over this, if it’s useful it’s useful (though it shouldn’t be overrated). Do reconsider donating to Wikimedia Foundation, since the money apparently can be spent even on union-busting.

Russia is much bigger than Ukraine. You might succeed in wrestling someone to the ground in a one on one fight, much less likely (to say the least) if you’re up against two or three people. Ukraine is far from a position where they can pick and choose the nicer methods to win the war.

Google (and/or the libraries that collaborate with Google Books) and Archive.org usually scan non-destructively. Some of Google’s book scans still show the fingers holding the corners of the pages, some of them were taken mistakenly mid-flip, etc. So they clearly used whole, normally bound books.
