Not who you’re commenting to, but for me it’s based on wasting/spending the time to read not only OP’s analysis about the Fediverse, but then looking into their comment history and public modlogs for their ‘perfectly polite’ takes that got them banned.

Which is far more than basing a conclusion on a single phrase.

People wearing the skin of decency usually gives reason for people to fight on social media. And sometimes people do the research so others don’t have to.

The context of the author is valid when judging their content.

A lot of the moderation that causes users public grief are usually just timeouts. Arguments over politics and ideology, etc quite often catch folks a timeout. Folks will debate a two day ban for a week.

And with the Fediverse: many community moderators are also admins of instances.

So with that in mind: moderation policies quickly convert drama between users to drama between instances.

This reminded me of how into RTS games I was when MOBAs really hit. I was deep into Company of Heroes, even involved with official patches and mapmaking. Definitely some bitter jealously at the mobas after that whole effort crashed and burned for us, in retrospect.

The only moba mode I thought was consistently fun was Ability Draft. It was so categorically broken and silly, but DotA 2 killed it off I think.

Oh I get that. That was kind of a disappointing part of ER. They established this sort of sanctuary effect, gave an example of it being revoked, and then never revisted it.

I thought it was like callback to ds1 firekeeper sorta thing, which it wasn’t. Same thing with the Radahn fight and the giant desert arena. I thought it was a callback to Bed of Chaos or Seath with some hidden immortality gem to break and you had to feed phantoms to distract him until you did. Nope.

But in that way ER is truly DS2:2 with the one-off mechanics.

You can’t parse this? If they didn’t respond to a DM, they were letting you have the final word, which is usually the most important thing, right? Since, you know, you needed to screenshot it and make that public. Which makes this about more about continuing the fight that triggered the ban…

Uh, if you’re trying to continue an argument into DMs (which you’re then publicly posting screenshots of) then I think you push yourself solidly into YDI. Honestly great call by the mod.

I played DotA when it was a custom WC3 map (and Aoens of Strife in SC). Seeing it become this whole genre and esports phenomena was weird. I feel like I could never take any of them seriously.

If you mean the messages you find throughout the game, almost all of those are written by other players. You can leave them behind too.

Definitely can be, though I walked into a rural health department who had paper applications. They didn’t use online applications as a screening method. Got the job that month. They were also a weird teamsters union department, and probably wouldn’t have hired me if I weren’t white. So the mileage definitely varies.

(And yeah I processed paperwork 80% of my time there.)
