News@lemmy.world•California announces minimum wage increase as governor taunts TrumpEnglish
5·2 days agoSeattle does this and ties it to the CPI-W. It’s currently $21.30, which isn’t the highest in the country due to surrounding cities in the same Seattle metro area having slightly more, like $21.65 in Tukwila, $21.63 in Burien, and $21.50 in Renton. Every Seattle metro area city and even unincorporated King County (6309 sqmi for all of the metro area with 4.16 million residents) all have their own city/county laws to tie it to CPI-W.
I don’t see why everyone doesn’t do this.

Technology@lemmy.world•Zohran Mamdani hints he will continue taking on delivery apps like Uber Eats and DoorDashEnglish
20·3 days agoThey can. Seattle’s minimum wage is the highest in the country, and we even have mandated that delivery services pay this minimum wage. Now they show “extra fees” to “pay for this” like they didn’t have the money for it before…
To be fair it doesn’t look like it was a comic so my brain didn’t go there either.

94·7 days agoTo be fair, what we have in most of the world isn’t actually raw/pure capitalism, most of the time called Laissez-faire capitalism. Most of the world has a mixed economy of different capitalism implantations across the board in different areas: state/regulated/corporate capitalism and best of all crony capitalism.
Regulated capitalism may actually work if we regulated it fairly and didn’t have megacorps writing the laws. But I don’t have that much faith in human nature to not keep fucking it up like we’ve done so many times.

The speed of one thing is the same speed of the other if you change the reference point. So the cube has momentum but the moving platform does not. It’s more about having a velocity in respect to the portal it’s going in or coming out of or an average of both. Like when you jump into a portal, you come out faster on the other side. Now what if that out portal was traveling at the same rate? Would you be traveling just outside the portal or double speed (in relation to the ground and static objects in the same room)?
In the shower I like noise and whatnot and am able to still have a pretty relaxing time. Plus NPR is just a few minutes and just facts.
I’m lucky I get to walk and take public transit to/from work, so that’s my quiet time. Even if I’m on the phone doing my daily gatcha game or scrolling lemmy, I still get moments of quiet and introspection. I was diagnosed with depression last year, and I think it was a big part of just dopamine burnout with ADHD and the news cycle, but I’m doing much better on medication, and it’s allowed me to step back and quiet my thoughts a little more too. :)
Everyone is different, but thanks for being concerned for your neighbor lemmy user and taking the time to explain!
It’s not all the time. It’s just an anecdote I had to relate to the post. I enjoy listening to the news while I get ready mostly.
I enjoy listening to NPR and Apple News when getting ready. It’s not every day, and it keeps me minimally informed. The tearing up doesn’t happen that often. I was just providing an anecdote.
I don’t like either of these because they aren’t unique enough to easily speed read. The þ is a p and b and confuses my brain and the ð is just a little too small for the cross at the top on many fonts. At least ø and æ are unique enough to my eyes.
Why is this in the autism community when it’s about ADHD?
I agree with the post as someone with ADHD. When I’m in the shower, I listen to NPR and Apple News. I’ve had times where I break down in tears over something so tiny either sweet or awful. It’s exhausting sometimes.

What’s the point of defaults even being there if you can disable them?
I do 2-3 sprays on my left wrist, dab my two wrists together, then dab my wrists on my neck. Still follows the same rules of only the person hugging you should smell your cologne.
I have no idea what’s better, but I just looked it up, and people recommend NOT rubbing it on anywhere because it can cause the fragrance to change because of heat, so just dabbing it on is fine.

There is no “long term”. mRNA degrades in your body after a few days. Your immune system remembers the spike proteins. End of story. This isn’t even college level biology.
mRNA has been in development and testing for over 3 decades. The first trials were 2 decades ago. We have enough information, you just continue to choose to be obstinate and ignorant about this.
