Might as well just contribute to Heroic at this point…
Heroic is singlehandedly the best tool I’ve had for getting seemingly any Windows game to work as needed. I don’t know what they do differently than Bottles or Lutris under the hood but good lord the “just works” aspects of it are glorious.
Janky old DX8 title? Bam, now it runs in Vulkan with proper API extensions and directinlut wrappers. Got a weird, 16-bit Windows 3.1 title? Look at that, it works too. The only seeming exceptions are where there legitimately just isn’t support yet via Proton or DXVK and that’s an ever narrowing gap
Are you saying it will run Mordor: The Depths of Dejenol?
It very well might.
Also TIL the original developer still sells boxed copies of this thing. That’s crazy. It also seems like they’ve updated fhe binaries for 32-bit systems so it should run under modern Windows.
It was probably abandonware for some time. Hopefully will find an archive on some of hard drives
Well, I’m sad to report it certainly isn’t a one-click launch for that game. I came across the original files, but it seems those 16-bit titles are still unevenly supported. It doesn’t help that i386 support was removed from the Linux kernel a while back.
There’s only one way to find out! :D
I have issues with old DOSBox games. Has anyone ever gotten Star Wars Rebel Assault 1 or 2 running?
Holy moly. I hope they don’t half ass it. 🙏🏻
Oh hey does that mean they’ll actually ship all the libraries needed to run the linux versions of games released on the platform?
For select titles maybe but I wouldn’t count on it unless clearly stated
They have been saying that on and off for years. Im sure it will come eventually but its impossible to tell when that will be.
Poland needs to invest into Linux more
I think I’e read this headline 26 times in the past year.
Europeans on Cachy clap in response
Fucking finally! I hate all the run around required to get some games to run.
Cool, I’ll look at it just as soon as the evidence they aren’t anti-trans Nazis comes in.
You’re getting downvoted but they still haven’t given a coherent response to that whole Nazi newsletter fiasco. It’s so dumb how people on Lemmy/Piefed will gladly shun any far-right bigotry until it regards their favourite video game platform.
Fuck I need more context don’t do this to me.
I remember CDPR saying something like “the future includes trans people, fucking deal with it.” After getting shit on about art in cyberpunk.
Wtf?
So for the trans stuff there’s a decent summary and opinion here: https://www.resetera.com/threads/cdpr-is-a-transphobic-company-its-time-we-stop-making-excuses-for-them.307474/
I personally (I know I’m the one who started this chain) didn’t have too much of an opinion on the trans stuff as I’m not in that space at all, so kind of defaulted to that community’s opinion. Not great, company had room to improve.
They’re kind of full of the corporate non-apologies and didn’t handle it the greatest. Everything after was them trying to save face I think. To their credit they did ultimately fire the responsible party. And if it was just that I might have left it thinking they screwed up, hopefully they learn.
But then GoG did their Nazi thing and I’m thinking if I keep smelling smoke there’s a fire ya know?
As @mushroommunk@lemmy.today detailed the trans story, here’s the Nazi story.
tl;dr GOG sent out a newsletter with SS symbols despite having noticed it before publishing.
I hear about the email a while ago, didn’t hear the response, and wasn’t sure if there was more to it.
“I also recognize that placing two such runes next to each other could create an unfortunate association with symbols used by the Nazi regime. This was noticed before distribution, and out of respect for local sensitivities, the material was not sent to the German community.”
But, this is the bit that kills me, I could buy “Our internet didn’t realize how badly those rendered on certain mail clients.”
But the fact that they noticed and sent it is insane.
Kinda wish I didnt just re-buy FO3 and NV a bit ago.

Don’t feel too guilty, you’re already better off than most for caring about it.
It’s just a shame how prevalent that kind of behaviour is. It’s to the point where you pretty much have to scour the backgrounds of all the businesses you buy from to see if they’re hateful/extremist. Like they always have something to hide.
^Purity test nonsense.
The only thing I want from GoG for Linux is a game download in 1 file instead of many. I spent an hour today trying to install the DLC for Yakuza Like a Dragon and it just would not detect the game installation.
Ended up downloading the whole thing from Fitgirl instead because it’s better service.
