“Vernon said the man threatened to kill him and called him a racial slur”

There it is. He felt like someone he thought was beneath him was giving him something and that upset his worldview.

I’m thankful that in all my years of working in retail, I never had a gun pointed at me. Having said that, random people get so bent out of shape about the most ridiculous, inconsequential things and it can be close to impossible to predict who it’s going to be or what is going to set them off.

Based on my experiences, if a customer is being indignant even after explaining that I was helping them out, I would apologize and remove the discount or ring the order up differently (if it was in my power to do so). More often than not, they calm down after they get what they want, even if it’s to their own detriment. Granted, after calming down, a not insignificant number of these folks will realize their mistake and then they have to figure out a way to save face so they can ask for the discount to be reapplied.

If and/or when they catch him he’s going away for brandishing, menacing, maybe even attempted murder depending on how the case goes.

A felony conviction makes you a prohibited person, meaning no firearms or ammunition for life.

It will still be illegal for him to possess them or even try to obtain them.

The only way to purchase a firearm without a background check (that also isn’t an express ticket to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison) is to buy a used firearm from a private individual in your state. That person also needs to not be a prohibited person themselves, cannot be a firearms dealer by trade, and the firearm must be legal to own in the state in which you both reside.

Online gun sales, new gun sales, and gun sales crossing state lines all require a background check be performed by a licensed dealer, known as an FFL. The ATF randomly audits about 10-15% of FFLs in a given year, which doesn’t include the number audited as a part of investigations following up on complaints and tips.

Sorry for the wall of text. Whenever people bring up background checks the uninformed yet highly opinionated tend to come out of the woodwork.

P.S.: If any of said individuals would like to prevent cases that slip through the cracks please write your representatives to increase ATF funding for enforcement activities.

It’s illegal, but because firearms are so hilariously ubiquitous, there is effectively no standard of ownership or storage, and law enforcement has inadequate tools to tackle gun tracing by design, there is ample opportunity for a prohibited person to unlawfully obtain a gun in the US. Made even more laugable by the open, legal marketing of products like the P80, which are ending up in police evidence lockups across the country.

The gun culture in America is inherently anti-social and anti-establishment, so rules and laws cannot just be lightly suggested and expected that they be followed. People need to consistently go to prison and permanently lose their gun rights for their fuckups to start changing things.

I didn’t, because I live in a state that licenses gun owners, tracks all pistol purchases and actually throws people in jail for being criminally negligent with their guns. I can guess where they stand on gun control and gun law enforcement.

I assume you didn’t either, because you don’t actually care about any of this and just took the chance to info-dump and misdirect people who want to regulate your toys.

It’s Ohio tho, they have two plates…

The other car didn’t have fronts either, so it’s got to be a border town or something.

Taking a gun across state lines can open up a shit ton of other charges too depending on a lot of different charges.

But gun crimes like this rarely get charged, the cops don’t give a shit so even if someone identifies the guy and tells cops where he’s at, they probably won’t do anything. Especially if it involves crossing state lines.

The reason people act like this, is they get away with it. Usually up until they actually murder someone

A quick Google says the population of Ohio was 11.7 million in 2023. Since you basically need a car to get anywhere, I’d guess probably 40-50% of that for the number of registered cars, so at $2 a plate cutting the fronts saves you somewhere around $9 million.

Not much when talking about the budget for a State, but not insignificant.

This is such an American phenomenon.

Even without the school shootings, this would be reason enough for me to say that the second amendment needs further amending.

I’m not sure what you’re getting at. The problem is that a random loser had a gun and pointed at another human being in a situation so far removed from a “life or death situation” that it’s almost impossible to fathom.

That guy should never be allowed within 10 feet of a gun, but I’d be surprised if that’s part of his punishment.
