51·22 days agoYeah, but if you hand it to the Chinese instead, then Canada doesn’t get access to it via 5-eyes.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is so difficult to organize a strike
131·24 days agoI’m pro-union,
But there are legit downsides to consider.
Most often,
-
Minor Problem - Fee’s (typically they aren’t that much)
-
Moderate Problem - Union Management eventually gets big enough, they lose touch with the workers
-
Biggest Problem… Union’s protect people that absolutely deserve to be fired, and protect the useless far too often. You get stuck with co-workers that by every metric should have been let go, but the Union keeps them.
These are my own anecdotal opinions that I’ve personally experienced working in both Union and Non-Union situations.

TLDR: if you never enabled Application type wallpapers in the filters (which is off by default), then searched for application wallpapers with Chinese names and then ignored the big red warning, you are not affected by this.

17·2 months agoWhere does the matter go?
We take it out of the ground, put it into circulation of our food cycle,
It’s not like it goes up in smoke and disappears from the planet.
So where’s all those elements go?
Answer -> Sewage
At some point we’ll break even where it’s cheaper to reclaim those elements from sewage treatment than mining it.
So no… 80% of humans staving to death because we can’t mine these elements isn’t something we’ll need to worry about long term.
If in the future, abundant energy isn’t available for reclamation, then overall costs of living will increase slowly over the years, and then population rate will decrease (as it already is doing)
It’s not like one day we’ll run out, and suddenly there’s a massive staving event.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How is RAM size measured? Why doesn't it match the marketed size?
9·3 months agoSorry, it’s me taking up that space.
Yeah, I had the custom sound startup on the original controller.
Probably it logs the impact acceleration event, and denies your warranty claim.
Engineer needed to tune/test it, and this was the easiest way to find out when the event triggers.
Made it fun,
And someone said, “Lets keep it in there”
And so it be

There have been 100’s of years geopolitical fighting going on, (even today) over oil.
People have put out TRILLIONS in $$$ in large sophisticated long term projects like pipelines, oil-rigs, etc.
You know what has been absolutely abundant that entire time? Hydrogen.
Do you know what crazy physics technology has recently been created related to Hydrogen? None.
Hydrogen doesn’t work. It’s never worked, and its never going to work. The math isn’t there.
Unless you are talking fusion, or some fundamentally new physics has been found that completely upends everything we know about chemistry.
Hydrogen will never be a thing. It’s already being carried and store in the best possible manner. Through large chains of carbon.
