EXCLUSIVE: Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes was asked to resign by Mayor Katie Wilson on Wednesday, just hours after his office was asked about a federal tax lien filed against Barnes and his assets, including his Chicago-area home.

The Post Millennial obtained Cook County, Illinois records showing the Internal Revenue Service filed a Notice of Federal Tax Lien against Barnes and Stephanie Dance totaling $86,841.14. The lien, recorded on March 11, 2025, “on all property and rights to property belonging to this taxpayers,” lists Barnes’ residence in Park Ridge, Illinois, where his family has continued to live throughout his tenure as Seattle’s police chief.

According to the filing, the lien stems from unpaid federal income tax assesments for tax years 2021, 2022, and 2023. Earlier Wednesday, the Seattle Police Department was contacted seeking comment on the federal tax lien. The department did not respond before Barnes was asked to resign later that day.

Republicans are using this idea of masculinity to sway men into voting for them. The article is a really interesting read and does well at treating the topic of masculinity as it relates to this movement and not as a way to push men and boys into certain traits.

Framing the danger women face from men as “a person chasing them with exposed genitalia” is dismissive and inaccurate. 1 in 3 women will face SA or rape in their lifetime. That isn’t an exaggeration.

I think any pushback on welcoming people who aren’t male, white, and tech-focused should be squashed. Like that’s absurd to only want this place to reflect what white male techs want when there’s more than enough capacity to have separate communities with different focuses. It was the rampant sexism that initially turned me away from the fediverse. I think I tried two or three times before I found my groove and the communities that speak to me.
