Some happy gameplay, a hint of critique ;)

(+1)

Thank you so much for the kind words! I am a solo dev so this video/review means the world to me! You are SO kind. It's definitely making me want to continue down this concept and possibly make this a full game with more complex puzzles and interactions. I was really hoping to have more intuitive day/night puzzles, but I was limited with the 10 day deadline to make it more complex, but I definitely want to push it further!

I definitely got HUGE inspiration from Spirited Away with the little soot characters. I absolutely adore their design and I felt like that kind of vibe felt REALLY nice with the subconscious creature I was thinking of.

The diamonds you need to collect are dream fragments. I wanted to make a whole cutscene in the beginning since I am an artist myself. I wanted to express the plotline more, but it is about a child going to sleep and experiencing nightmares and peaceful dreams and your goal is to restore those nightmares back to peaceful dreams to sort of "protect" the child. I have an 8 1/2 year old myself so as a mother, I feel that pretty deeply. :) But these dream fragments will restore the nightmares back into peaceful dreams in the "final" version of the game I was envisioning.

I did the art on the main menu screen and the little soot character (Lumi) <3 I had a lot of fun since it was my first time doing art animations in Clip Studio! I have been drawing since I was in Middle School so I really appreciate the callout with the art. Made me smile so big when you mentioned that!

I am not a 3D artist so I REALLY hope I can do that in the final version and make my own 3D models (this asset pack came from GameDev.tv's game jam asset pack they sold prior to releasing the game jam). I wanted to make interactions more intuitive with opening cupboards and fridge doors, etc. but I had to work with the models/meshes the way they were sold since I am not a 3D artist myself and couldn't really manipulate them).

I really did want to make Level 1 have a tutorial on how to shift day/night mode and the goal overall, but I didn't have time with that :) I did add the controls UI last minute before submitting so hopefully that helped.

The candle DOES generate the vines to climb on the piano at night time in Level 1. I should have definitely made the candle visible at night only so it showed the ambient lighting from it and then the vine on the piano only visible during day with the dream fragment so it would have shown that the candle definitely did grow the vine!

I absolutely forgot to remove the cubicles interaction in Level 2. It was a puzzle I was integrating, but then I steered away from it and forgot to remove that interaction. I'm SO sorry for that mishap!

I do really love the day/night shift. I had a lot of fun developing that shader and fine tuning it since my first go at it definitely made me motion sick in the beginning and I wanted to make sure others didn't feel that way.

You do such a fantastic job reviewing games! Your voice is VERY pleasing to listen to (if that's a weird thing to say, I apologize). :) Thank you again SO much for reviewing my game jam game <3 I'm really proud I met the deadline of 10 days and still feel pretty proud of the end product. I can't express my gratitude enough. Your review literally made my entire day!

I am very excited to release my first game this year. That is my goal :)
