How does your game fit the theme?
The safe answer is it's a roguelike game where the gameplay keeps looping. The meta answer is that inspiration is like a loop: people make things that inspire people to make things that inspire people to make things... One of the main reasons I got back into gamedev after 6 years was because Balatro is one of my favourite games and I was inspired by a youtube video about the story of Balatro's creation; this game is my love letter to Balatro, made in the same engine, Love2D. Maybe one day I will inspire someone the same way the amazing people in the gamedev community have inspired me, I really enjoyed making this game so I hope you enjoy playing it :)

2 royalty free music tracks from Peritune.com, a set of minesweeper tiles by FrostC from OpenGameArt which were modified (and inspired all the other art). All other art and the sounds were made by me.

I do like the idea of the game but I am not sure how the scoring works. Like I could clear a whole board and still not have enough score to get to the next level?

Developer

It's like Balatro, you need to buy upgrades and level ups so that you can keep up with the point scaling. Thanks for playing it though I appreciate it :)

Haven't played Balatro so that probs didn't help lol

I like the idea of combing Balatro and Minesweeper, but I got a little overwhelmed by mines

Pretty hard for newbies to get into it + some descriptions are not so intuitive but still, it get me for a moment (while I was trying to get higher than third floor), good job!

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I appreciate the feedback too, definitely got some changes I want to make when I'm allowed to.

Love the idea and the upgrades seem cool, but the starting boards are way too crowded with mines so i found it rare that i got through the first level. Though that seems like an easy adjustment to make after jam and other than that I really like everything else about this game and can see its potential! Good luck :D

Developer

Thanks for playing the game and I appreciate the feedback, a lot of people have said similar things about the start needing to be easier, I'm definitely going to adjust it a bit after the jam.

Love the idea of taking existing / proven mechanics and putting a unique spin on them. This has a lot of potential. Great work!

Developer

Thanks!

Such a cool idea (and the story behind you actually making this game). :) I suck at Minesweeper, but I see how it could become a staple in any Minesweeper lover's library. The presentation is also lovely. Good job with this game! :)

Developer

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words :)

I love the idea of Minesweeper with some meta progression. I'm so rusty at Minesweeper I couldn't progress through the upgrade tracks very far though :P

I had trouble reading the text, especially the hover text for the upgrades.

Developer

I'm glad you like the idea, thanks for the feedback!

Good one! I think it would be better with smaller maps or letting you keep playing even if you lose the level, because it feels a bit punishing if you are not very good at minesweeper. But I loved the art and the menus, the inspiration from Balatro is great. Good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing my game, I'm glad you enjoyed it! On the main menu you can set the game to immortal difficulty which stops you being able to lose if you want to :)

Hey good to see someone else with Balatro as an inspiration like me! Minesweeper was a great choice and I love all the little text effects. Huge fan of that trippy shader/animation in the background!

If you don't mind, please consider rating my game as well :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'll be sure to check out your game later :)

I'm a bit bad at minesweeper to begin with, but this one seemed to start out with a ton of mines, I constantly guessed wrong. I do like the concept of a roguelike minesweeper, though. Solid art and sounds, and everything ran well and there's plenty of juice!  Welcome back to dev :D

Developer

Thanks!

I think a few smaller, easier levels at the front would be good. I'm not great at minesweeper (I do enjoy it though), and I couldn't get past level 2. It feels like unless I get a good start, I'm screwed, because then I'm just clicking around on random spots to find a safe area and there could be a bomb anywhere. That's the fault of Minesweeper though (or me!), not Swope. 😂 I tried the easy difficulty, but still could not get past level 2. I couldn't bring myself to try immortal, probably because I can't allow myself to not suffer.

I have never played Balatro, but I've seen videos of it, and I think you did a good job of saying "This is Balatro Minesweeper!" with your graphics and layout. It's nice seeing it checking all the tiles at the end of a level and adding up my score. I liked it, and I would play more of it.

Developer

Thanks I really appreciate the kind words and feedback!

I love Minesweeper and your Rouge Lite interpretation of it.

One advice: The texst in the shop could be improved - sometimes its not completely clear what somethin does. "Level up" and "Upgrade" sound very similar for example.

With a little polish this can get a great game.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate the kind words!

Cool twist on the minesweeper with nice visual effects!

I like minesweeper and you managed to make it even better! I really enjoy seeing people re-imagine classic games with a twist, and the Balatro inspired gameplay works really well here. Great work!

Developer

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it, thanks for the kind words!

I finally learned how to play minesweeper - but even easy is too hard for me, I tried like 10 times and I just can't get 500. I really love "normal" games being made into roguelikes, and minesweeper is one of those that is widely known and love, definitely had potential!

Developer

Thanks for playing it!

With a little bit more balance/polish this has more potential than I expected if someone were to pitch me a "minesweeper rogue-like", good job! For the feedback, it would be nice if the special tiles also had tooltips when playing as I often forgot what they do. Shame about the music, but I've put on some my own tunes ;)

Welcome back to gamedev, hope you stay for longer this time ;)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it. I'm glad you enjoyed the game!

Wow, I wasn't expecting a minesweeper game! Good job!

I have personally never loved minesweeper, but I really do think that you managed to reinvigorate it and make it a lot more satisfying! Doing that to such a classic game really is impressive, and I see in the comments that many share the same sentiment, so very well done! :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Everyone is so nice in the comments, thank you for leaving one :)
