A lot of the questions are hard for the same reason most political compass questions are hard. It'll say something like "is x good for society?" Which society? The one where it's owned and operated entirely at the behest of Peter Thiel? Absolutely not.
If 90% of jobs got automated tomorrow the working class would be kind of fucked. I would have said "The capitalist system would collapse immediately if that happened" a few years ago, but lately I've realized that these things are a lot sticker than they "should be". I don't think that take is at odds with LTOV because people seem to just sort of carry on doing their usual thing even if it doesn't make sense anymore. I think millions would have to starve first

He distinguishes his argument from the one for a "first mover" near the start of the video. He's talking about something which is "holding up" everything in a particular moment. Something "at the bottom of the causality chain" and goes on to say this is evidence for the existence of what he calls "god" which is actively causing the entire universe to be, moment to moment.
I think I communicated that poorly, there was one more part to the argument I was trying to make. That those many causes in various ways flow back to the water in the cup creating a circle. That the water in the cup contributes to cause everything else in some small way.

I shouldn't engage with this content I know I know. I have a question which is probably trivial to someone who has read more philosophy than I. The whole idea of this hierarchical causality in a particular time slice seems fuzzy. In his argument "god" (which in this case just means anything which would exist outside, or underlying, the laws of our universe) exists in a gap which isn't necessarily there. Whether I should even accept this idea as a constant or law of the universe in the first place aside.
In his argument (again this is in a particular slice of time, not the typical "causality" you're used to where causes precede effects) you have water in a cup, supported by "caused by" the cup, "caused by" your arm ... the floor is "caused by" the foundation of the building ... the earth orbits the sun ... until you run out of "causes" and that's where "god" comes in.
But who is to say this is a hierarchy at all? With each step the "object" we're talking about grows exponentially, but we ignore the nearly infinitesimal "causation" that thing exerts upon the original "object", the water in the cup. Is it not possible that the causation does not in fact happen hierarchically but instead branches out to infinity, touching every particle of existence, which in turn "cause" (EDIT: I meant to write "are caused by") the water in the cup by infinitesimal amounts, and when added up approach 1? Which would make "causation" more like a circle than a pyramid?
If it sounds like I'm talking out my ass it's because I mostly am. I'm just trying to get my head around this.

·1 month agoI don't know about mods, but for vibe coded programs I've used they have this weird overly slick themed look on the frontend, but the descriptions of the functions aren't quite right and you don't really know what you're getting when you click something, and half the time clicking something does apparently nothing at all.

I remember when you would get bullied for sending a screenshot instead of a link. That was when 99% of content online was accessible without being bugged with a paywall or login screen so I get it, but it still sucks.

It isn't like she doesn't have decorations, she does. She even has a dog! Something about the place just feels very uncomfortable.
