I love it. I lost access to some old Amazon books when I went with a kobo and koreader + Calibre. Not because of the reader itself, but because decrypting DRM books with a Calibre plugin requires generating a key with some Adobe software (I don't remember what it's called) and that software is Windows only. I just "pirated" those books. I figured, fuck them, I already paid once.
Also using the koreader without an account required changing a field in a sqllite db on the device. It wasn't that big a deal, and I think there is a slicker way now, but it still shouldn't be necessary.
A shame it takes some hoops to just read books on e-ink in peace.
My dad's ship had a phantom shitter too. This was a destroyer, also in the 70s. They were denied shore leave at one point and the phantom shitter shit in the skipper's bunk.
I can't imagine the cajones.

There's a "great man" aspect to this conspiracy theory, just as with the HAARP conspiracy theory. They believe that one man, Bill Gates perhaps, or one facility, can cause these widespread climate effects. But they also believe that humans pumping billions of tons of CO2 can't, because that requires materialist analysis.
Obviously some of this is rooted in petrochemical propaganda but that propaganda really ties into the mental bedrock that already existed. Americans are primed to believe myths with the "correct" structure.
It's also interesting how all of the Epstein fury has stuck to Gates, while washing off Trump.
You see a mélange of all this sentiment in comment sections about ticks.

Chapotraphouse•Ive been out of my mind in pain because of a fucking mattress hahaha haha haha hhhhhhh PSA: MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS GOES ON HARD SUPPORT ONLY
·29 days agoIf you live in a humid climate you'll want to keep it off the floor somehow, I created a mold problem once putting a memory foam mattress right on the floor. Now I have some ikea box thing, similar to this but not quite.
I get what you mean, though. The most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, by far, was one of these things while I was staying in someone's spare room for six months. I've never slept that well before or since, even on thousand dollar mattresses.
I remember the original Diablo let you install "spawn" copies on your friends' computers. This was a limited, co-op only version of the game, and you could all play together using only one full retail version.
Execs: We've finally found it, the AI of truth!
AI: Use fresh, high quality ingredients and lots of meat.
Execs: Nyehh!!
You can see a very distinct before/after Interstellar whenever black holes are depicted in media. Prior to Interstellar, black holes were depicted like whirlpools even though Jean-Pierre Luminet generated an image in the 1970s that shows gravitational lensing.

This has to just be stock pump and dumps, or they are literally mercury-poising, late-stage-syphilis levels of insane. Even if they got everything they wanted none of this shit would work as well or be as cheap as technology we already have. It just reinforces how stupid, venal, and misanthropic these fucks are.
TFW you join the monastery only to discover that going into the clergy or becoming a monastic was still a big part of the power structure of that culture and therefore just as embroiled in politics and business as any other learned profession and absolutely full of shit heads who just happened to not be the first-born son but otherwise are still climbers.
You want to be one of those hermits that people lower supplies down to your cave in a basket, or maybe an anchorite if you can work out having a gaming PC in your cell for purposes of holy Eucharist or some shit.

There's a whole clade of independent housing inspectors who make content online highlighting the shit they find on the job, and these new-construction developments are the worst. The city or county inspectors signing the occupancy permits MUST be on the take, there's no other explanation.

Television and Film@adultswim.fan•A surge of stop-motion animation tells off AI one frame at a time. The medium's handcrafted virtues directly oppose any push in a more artificial direction.
·1 month agoI was thinking about the Great Serpent Mound (also Stonehenge, etc) and the fact that so much human effort was involved that it's actually the labor that makes it really special. We know that people cared about this so much, it had so much importance to them for whatever reason, they worked and worried and suffered over it for long enough to make it happen. That's what makes it special. If the guy with a digger did it in a month it would just be a curiosity but not a monument.
It also reminds me of a game studio I worked at that hired an exec from, I don't know, Frito-Lay or some shit. He took it as a point of pride that he had no idea how games were made because he believed it didn't matter and having any sort of romantic notions about art would get in the way of the business of moving product, because anything but the fetishization of generic units was an affectation that true visionaries (like him) must discard. These are the people who can't understand why we can't be bothered to pay for AI slop.
Anyway that studio's reputation now stands in ruins.
He's also dedicated to shortwave despite acknowledging it's a moribund medium, and has perpetual dental issues. I like him. He's resigned himself to go down with the ship of whatever it is he's sailing.
