It’s definitely on that 5 point scale of denialism:

    1. It’s not happening

    2. It’s happening but it’s natural/we don’t now why

    3. It’s happening but it’s good actually

    4. It’s happening and there’s nothing we can do to fix it

    5. It’s happening and it’s our fault and there’s nothing we should do

  • Yes basically half of the cost is the equipment and the other half is labor. Most household work is priced like that. I paid more on top because I needed a new air duct plenum which is the main distribution box for the individual runs to the rooms since the original one was leaking cold air into the attic and was undersized. My whole system is fucky because the original builders didn’t use the correct flex ducting.

  • Seems fairly reasonable especially if they’re willing to start it asap. It is a sales tactic but you could ask for an itemized work order/invoice before proceeding to get more comfortable with the materials and labor split. Also so that the work is clearly delineated in how much of the duct work is getting replaced, the new unit’s ratings and manufacturer, etc. Don’t forget that you may be able to get some rebates from the energy company if they have them.

You should also ask for what it comes with in terms of thermostat (smart or basic) and air filters. For that cash you should get a smart thermostat and at least a year’s worth of filters.
