Hotkey Information for GammaOS
This section outlines the key input behaviors and hotkey mappings used in RetroArch when running on GammaOS. These controls apply across all supported devices unless otherwise specified.
Home or Back button
The Home or Back button acts as the universal RetroArch hotkey within GammaOS. This key serves as the basis for additional shortcut combinations described below.
You can open or close the RetroArch Quick Menu using either of the following inputs:
- Press L3 + R3 simultaneously
- Short press the Home or Back button
Selecting Close Content from the Quick Menu closes the running game and returns you to the frontend.
When holding the Home or Back button as the hotkey modifier, you can access the following quick actions:
-
Hotkey + L1
Activates slow motion. This temporarily reduces emulation speed for precision gameplay. -
Hotkey + L2
Loads the most recent save state for the active game. -
Hotkey + R2
Saves a new state immediately. -
Hotkey + R1
Enables fast forward mode. This increases emulation speed while the combination is held. -
Hotkey + X
Displays the current frames per second overlay. -
Hotkey + Y
Captures a screenshot.
These shortcuts allow fast access to core emulation functions without navigating menus.
GammaOS includes streamlined support for in-session preservation of game progress:
-
Hold down the Home or Back button
RetroArch will automatically:- Save the current state
- Quit the game
- Return control to the frontend or launcher
When you next launch the same game, RetroArch automatically loads the most recent state generated through this quick-quit action.
This mechanism provides seamless suspend and resume behavior across all supported platforms.
