  • It’s not hard, but can be time consuming, break the task up. Rough out a shape in pine (soft, easy to work, make a second from hardwood later if you want once you know what you want) with chisels or whatever power tool you have access to, e.g. drill with grinder attachment (and a vise or some other way of securing the wood, screws work). Then just get different sandpaper grits and sand by hand, start with 100 or 200, then 400, then 600 or 800 and if you still don’t think it’s smooth enough, 1200 will get you there. Probably take a few hours, but you’ll have a handy new skill, and can refine over time.
