I don’t know why so many people like this game so much. I found it unfathomably boring, slow and repetitive.

I started playing back in 2021 because of a friend, he loved the game and asked me and another friend to play with him.

Gave the game a chance and it was absolutely atrocious, I didn’t feel the character skills were interesting enough to spice the movement and shooting mechanics. Like, they do so little for the gameplay. And I was falling asleep when they locked-in and stopped talking while playing.

Comparisons are unfair but I don’t know exactly why I disliked this game so much when I’ve always loved Counter Strike.

I cannot play anymore because my OS of choice doesn’t allow kernel level anti-cheat but I really believe nothing of worth was lost.

Maybe because the community is huge and it’s very mainstream?

It’s one of the very few competitive games played by women I know in real life. Most of them play more casual games or single player stuff.

I like action games with great big stories and RPGs mostly. When I’m feeling like I want just gameplay and no real story, I’ve been playing a lot of roguelikes of all flavors, short incrementals, and rhythm games lately.

If you wanna try a multiplayer shooter that maybe doesn’t suck, or at least sucks less:

    Try SQUAD.

Bigger maps, vehicles, more game mechanics, team work and communication is generally required to win, community is generally accepting toward noobies, you can often find someone running a squad specifically geared toward showing newbs the ropes.

Not as ‘hero shooter’ as a hero shooter, you don’t get characterized, super abililties… but your team, and specifically your squad are limited to specific numbers of various kinds of kits… you need good composition and competent role execution from specialists for you and your squad to do well.

Not quite as hardcore milsim as Arma, but considerably less ‘video gamey’ than a Batllefield game. Less casual and more cerebral than your garden variety hero shooter, not as tedious or occasionally intensely boring as a full on milsim.

Basically, its the Project Reality mod from BF2, but turned themselves into their own studio and game.

I think its because Counterstrike really does fit this “most basic multiplayer” where its just a game of “click on someone else faster”

The entrypoint to playing is pretty low, easy to setup during a LAN, easy to jump in with friends without huge commitments, conceptually it takes one game to just “get it”

But Valorant kind of breaks a few of those rules because it adds chaotic abilities and roles for agents, new things can show up in later games, maybe just enough for some to hate it and others to enjoy
