Yeah, temporary contracts have this tendency of becoming drawn out. This is also why it’s so wild that so many European countries increased military spending before they even knew what to even buy with all of that money.

Yeah but bad chocolate is also trash, so this isn’t a question of which ingredient is better but a question of quality.
The best ice cream I ever had was vanilla, and it was home made by a crazy person.
I agree overall. But the irony is that Europe’s cooperation with the United States is a major source of instability. So I’d rather see NATO replaced by an international alliance of smaller countries and middle powers or smaller countries that reject aggression and abide by international law.
I also think that the whole “must spend X” obsession largely comes from NATO propaganda which assumed that Europe would use that money to buy weapons from the American MIC. That doesn’t invalidate all additional spending, especially if temporary, but I think it’s important to recognize the role it has had in shaping the United States (force the poor to join the military) and to vehemently reject that model.

Technology@lemmy.world•BMW is putting Spider-Man ads on your dashboard, after promising it never wouldEnglish
162·4 hours agoThese “premium” German brands are all committing suicide. Rejecting electric cars, rejecting nuclear power, designing cars that look like puke, and doing everything to monetize your use of the car.
With incompetent leadership like this, those 8k workers being laid off from BMW is just the beginning.
You know, whether you like it or not, there are bad people out there who will attack you if they think you look weak. There’s a pecking order to the world and the ones with the big guns think they have to go around and rub some “shithole country” into the dirt ones every 5 years.
I believe that we, as a species and by mutual agreement between peoples, must rid ourselves of weapons in order to defuse and degrade the capabilities of despots and mercenaries. But unilateral disarmament won’t work when a few countries think its their civilizational duty to come and murder your mother and extract your resources.
But they are several steps removed from reality. They are so brainwashed that they think it’s okay, that normal people cheer them on, and that it’s only bad people who would see anything wrong with this.
Australian McDonald’s.
By week 2 of your Macca’s diet your dick will have turned into a little button, by week 4 you grow boobs, but by week 8 that button shoots semen like a firehose. Works for me every time I jack off until my balls are permanently dry.

5·1 day agoKids learn all of that while being completely immersed in the new environment. I challenge you to move to a different country right now and immerse yourself in the culture. I bet you in three (3) years you’ll have a far superior command of that language than a 6 year old that was born in that country.

3·2 days agoTheir moat was supposed to be overwhelming compute, which they said was a necessity to produce frontier models and that only an American monopoly could produce. Three years later it’s not a monopoly but an oligopoly, the diminishing returns on compute are devastating, and China is humiliating them with models that aren’t really even focused on the English language.
What I’m saying is it’s more than money. It’s time with your friends/family, it’s time cooking/eating healthy rather than fast food, it’s time in the gym or whatever.
Wow, okay. I mean I was being sarcastic with my comment, but now I kinda regret it. Way to cheapen another profession’s talents and trade.
I never trust taxi drivers who use an electronic map. Taxi drivers should know all of the streets by heart, and be able to accurately predict road congestion, like they did in the good old days. By using this evil navigation technology, their spatial awareness withers and it is just a shame.

1·3 days agoChina is already making really good chips, even in old and “outdated” fabs. Because they came up with techniques for how to squeeze more resolution out of those machines than what was thought possible. So if their DUV technology actually works, then I’m sure their fabs will make good chips.

Correct, but it’s also the time you lose when commuting, which also forces you to sit still. If you work 8 hours/day and have a 1 hour commute, then you’re effectively locked up for 10 hours per day.
So currently I’m choosing between two jobs, one is a 15 min walk, the other with a 1 hour drive. It’s going to be the 15 min walk, easy, and the 1 hour drive would need a significantly higher paycheck for me to consider it seriously.

And it kinda has me thinking what all of that extra fat really does for a language. I never feel confused about meaning when speaking Persian, so the the/he/she/it/they/them really can’t be doing that much heavy lifting if you can just completely ignore it and have a perfectly functioning language without it.
