Also Christians:
“Nooooo humanity can’t just be a happenstance offshoot of mammalia that’s only been around for a geological blink, that’d mean we’re not special”
My favorite is them thinking I am arrogant for having better morality then their god. The god that’s a-okay with slavery. Genocide. That treats women as lesser.
I am better than your god, and frankly you.
Most Christians have better morals than God, but because they believe a lot of fanfic not actually in the Bible, nor was it ever part of an orthodox dogma/canon. Like they don’t believe in the death penalty for saying God’s name in vain. Or think divorce is allowed (it’s not. Even when the relationship is abusive. Jesus talks about it more than a lot of other “sins” and how wrong it is).
The bar is in Hell for God’s morality.
all you have to do to be better than their god is skip making juvenile diabetes
I have never once allowed a child to die from a cancer I could have cured
Oh, and fucking childhood dementia.
I hate the demiurge! I hate the demiurge!
Christians: “I have the secret to understanding all of existence. I read it all in this old book. No, I will never second-guess it. I cannot possibly be wrong. In fact, my truth is so self-evident that anyone who disagrees must be knowingly spreading lies for Satan.”
Atheists: “All our knowledge – past, present, and future – is nothing compared to what we will never know.”
Christians: “Atheists are so arrogant.”
humility is when i think i can burn all the oil with no consequences
you’re actually the arrogant one for thinking we might have to consider the effects of our actions
Christians:
Let's traumatize children by assuring them they never have any privacy because God is always watching and if you ever do something wrong you will burn forever!I was thinking today on the toilet about how suicide being a sin is a holdover from the medieval era. Mostly in relation to my dad and his cancer, like I wondered to myself if I was in his position and at his age, if I would contemplate it myself. I know he wouldn’t because he’s an oldschool Catholic, at least I think so, idk, he believes in god nonetheless. Anyway how the church preached it as a sin to have even more control over the peasantry, taking away a right that everyone in life should have to a death on their own terms, in order to extract more out of them and keep them in perpetual fear of going to hell.
I genuinely lost so much respect for philosophy and theology after reading Platinga’s argument against the problem of evil after hearing it was the definitive answer. I fully do not believe academic philosophy is a valid vocation any longer, and if you are a trained theologian or contemporary philosopher you have wasted your life.
Platinga’s argument against the problem of evil
Ah yes, “evil is the result of humans exercising free will,” like how humans freely willed the Little Ice Age and the ensuing devastating global famines into existence
Even if we make the argument that he was only arguing for moral evil and not, say, children getting cancer, transworld depravity is simply abrogation of omnipotence.
transworld depravity
Good name for an LGBT punk band
also it gets fun if you ask whether there’s free will in heaven.
I’ve got a friend who is a philosopher and I do have to try and avoid saying shit like this to him, he’s more sympathetic to Marx than most western trained philosophers though.
