With the lock placed like that in the second drawing there’s no way to separate the wheel from the frame so they’re both secured. Its the easiest way sometimes with a smaller ulock. The first one just uses a separate cable where one end is placed through the ulock to help secure the front wheel.

I dont think thats a bad option. I’ve done that when I had a quick release on the front, but sometimes, especially with a smaller u lock, its hard to get both the frame and any wheel secured together, so I’ll do just the back wheel between that triangle in the frame.

I’ve had a couple front wheels stolen, but the back wheel should basically never get taken if locked properly. Here’s a little graphic to help. You want to lock the most valuable parts and that’s the frame and back wheel. When the lock goes through that triangle on the frame through just the wheel both are secured.

Oh right. The larger point being anything from Garmin is probably better than anything else on the market. Theyll last years with no additional fees, and they apparently dont sell any of your data. Anything with them is opt in, and all part of why the devices seem so expensive. Seems they aren’t making money on shady business practices.

I would look at Garmin. The cirqa has the same aesthetics, and it looks like the fitbit air has a subscription for some functionality. While the Garmin is more expensive, everything else is included.

I prefer the built in GPS for running so I don’t have to take my phone with me. Maybe you’d like the vivo active or lily 2?

From what Ive heard Opencode, for agentic coding, is great, and I’d maybe try Gemma 4 (googles open weights model - permissive Apache 2.0 licensed) locally if I was so inclined. The size should be great for consumer hardware.

Not op, but I always thought this was fun. For any continuous quantity, (eg temperature, humidity, barometric pressure), there’s always two points on opposite ends (antipodal points) of earth with the exact same value. Its useless because there’s no way to know where these points are, it assumes a perfect sphere, and apparently these quanities aren’t exactly always continuous. Its the Borsuk-Ulam theorem from topology and extends to higher dimensions. It can be proven pretty easily on a circle with basic calculus.
