In the AI’s defense, if you ask your average USian to name 5 African countries you’re getting Nigeria and Egypt at best.

And I imagine that this took you about as much time and effort as typing that prompt did! All you’d need to do is load it into canva and spend another five minutes on it and there’d at least be something passable!

I also would expect someone working in grants given to African nations at least have a vague idea of where Nigeria actually is.

Wow, this is almost impressively wrong, actually. It got the correct color and location for the Ivory Coast/Côte d’Ivoire, but then pointed the label to… I believe that’s Mozambique? A bit hard to tell quite if it’s in Mozambique or Tanzania, but the image also seems to have listed Mozambique but then pointed to (with a color coding match) somewhere in Ethiopia. Then again, this map seems to have gotten a good chunk of Niger in with Nigeria, so maybe it is actually in Tanzania. Malawi seems to be placed closer to Zimbabwe or Botswana, but that spot is actually color coded to match Cameroon, which appears in the label list but is not highlighted anywhere on this map.

And even if you don’t know anything about African geography, the simple fact that there’s a floating entry at the end of the list with no match, a line pointing from the Ivory Coast with no label, and several color coding/color the country is highlighted in mismatches should have been a glaring red flag that this was slop to anyone paying any attention.

I can name a bunch of African nations, but placing them accuratly is where it falls apart (for me). The same can be said for any place in the world that I have not experienced first hand.

Also despite not having “côte” in its name Nigeria is also supposed to be on the coast. Lagos, its biggest city, is a harbour city.

    …and Cameroon borders Nigeria.

Edit: The more I look the worse it gets. Côte d’Ivoire, Malawi and Uganda are the only ones roughly in the right spot, but they are all misshapen, and the first two mislabeled. Mozambique is costal too, but closer to Madagascar and it borders Malawi heavily, like half way engulfs it.
