If you’ve seen some of the half baked articles coming from there over the last year, you wouldn’t be surprised at all. There’s still some interesting stuff but there’s a lot of half assed trash articles as well. I saw this and immediately everything made sense lol.

Technology@lemmy.world•Framework proved repairable laptops can work, but almost nobody is willing to buy oneEnglish
1·24 days agoIf you really moved the hard drive from one laptop to another without reinstalling the OS, that’s probably going to cause issues. It’ll “work” seemingly but it’s gonna be messy like this. You’re going to spend more time hunting weird shit than you would just doing a reinstall imo.
I’d backup what you need to and start over or you’re probably going to keep having strange issues.

1·25 days agoI’ve literally never had a computer need drivers to make basic USB work in the past probably 20 years. I had a bleeding edge ai 350 framework right even when it came out. Linux was a little flaky with my sound but everything else worked. Same in Windows. Maybe I needed Wi-Fi drivers, don’t recall, but I know USB worked without any. I’m really curious how you needed USB drivers of all things genuinely. I mean you installed the OS presumably from a thumb drive so how would that not work in the same os after installing? Lol.

I hate these far right fuck heads but honestly the witch hunts for literally everything are just exhausting. I can’t spend my whole life boycotting fucking everything. I just don’t have the fucking energy.

politics @lemmy.world•Top Democrat seems sour after Mamdani-backed candidates oust House incumbents
1·1 month agoHe also just sucks. After the interview he did with Jon Stewart on his podcast, I really knew more than ever what an empty shell of a person he was. I was ambivalent before that but that was the final straw I think. He needs to go. We need real leadership in the Democratic party and he’s not it.
Yes. Do you want to get shit done or do you just want to feel superior to others? At a certain point you just have to be practical and use what you can. You can be mad about it, but pushing people away when they’re trying to at least turn away from the really bad shit is just petty and unhelpful. I don’t like that people voted for Trump, but if they’re willing to go against that now, I’ll take what I can get. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
This is so many people. It’s astounding. So many people just seem completely overwhelmed at all times no matter where they are or what they’re doing and cannot simply prepare for what comes next. I suspect a large part of it is they’re just distracted on their phone like zombies.

News@lemmy.world•The AI bubble looks fit to burst, Bank of America director says.
5·2 months agoExcept consumer demand is way way way down. The prices won’t go back to what they were but they’re going to have to drop considerably if the corporate money dries up. No one is buying it and they still need to sell it. Part of the reason things are so bad is they don’t want to build more capacity and get fucked by a huge drop in demand like has happened before where RAM prices bottomed out to the point they lost money on the RAM they were selling.

2·2 months agoSometimes it can help troubleshoot but you have to already know what you’re doing so you can filter out really stupid suggestions and get to the “oh yeah I didn’t think about that” kind of stuff. If you’re relying on it completely, you’re gonna have a bad time lol.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google Employees Internally Share Memes About How Its AI SucksEnglish
5·2 months agoI am not even a developer but I’ve noticed tickets having a response written clearly by AI that miss several things I already talked to the person over teams about. Like dude read your own fucking comment before you post. The conclusion is wrong and you know that because we talked about it before you had the AI “figure out the problem” in the first place. Fuck. I know reading logs is really time consuming and annoying but the AI isn’t always very good or won’t just say “hey that log isn’t showing that I’m looking for” and instead just hallucinates something.
I don’t even hate AI, but could we at least use our fucking brains while using the AI? When it spits out code to me for my home projects, I, someone who is not a developer, still look at the code to make sure it’s not say running a loop that will hammer disk looking for 1200 files one at a time instead of pulling a directory listing and searching it or something very similar in the database I’m using. People have gotten so lazy. Maybe they’re tired of their bosses trying to force them and are providing garbage? I don’t know but can we just not? Lol.
IRC and Diablo 2 for me. You had to type fucking quick if you wanted to say something while your character was running to the spot you clicked on because you couldn’t click again until you finished and hit enter on that message lol.

1·2 months agoI guess I’ll have to try it out again and see what it’s like. My main concern is my mom and sisters having a hard time using it. Plex is easy for them and I don’t want to make it more difficult because I’m getting fussy about Plex lol.

2·2 months agoRight but afaik there isn’t a way to do that other authentication in the TV apps. That’s where I’m stuck and why I haven’t bothered to set it up again. I was looking into this because of the Plex thing and it seems like it’s still a pain in the ass on TV apps. All the other authentication methods require a web browser if I’m not mistaken.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex Announces Massive Price Hike on Lifetime Subscription PlansEnglish
11·2 months agoThe problem with this imo is that having each individual user needing to login with a password every time is kind of just cancer. I don’t get why they can’t just password protect logging into my server and then each user doesn’t need a password every time. Now it’s been a while but my understanding is it’s still basically that way? No one wants to type in a password every time on a TV. That sucks. And if they’re in a multi user household, that’s even worse.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plex Announces Massive Price Hike on Lifetime Subscription PlansEnglish
1·2 months agoIt’s not about what I can do. It’s about me having a gigantic headache ever getting this access on a TV. Please tell me exactly how that works for my users? Once this system leaves your house and needs normies to use it, everything is a headache I can’t host the TV app on my server. It needs to integrate with this authentication. I know how to run a reverse proxy. I’m not a moron. I do it for all my other services. That’s not a valid solution when the app CAN’T LOGIN TO IT. Lol. I don’t think this is that complicated. You seem to be willfully ignorant of how people actually use these apps. Once we’re outside my house, Jellyfin is useless outside a web browser. Period. It’s too much hassle for my users and all the self hosting magic in the world doesn’t fix that.

2·2 months agoHow are other projects going to handle using the Jellyfin app to log into Jellyfin? I don’t understand this. I see sentiments like this pretending Jellyfin is perfect like they don’t understand why people use Plex. I want to give my mom a URL that she can login to (or even better she gives me a code) after she downloads an app. What is the point of Jellyfin itself not handling this? It’s pointless. If I’m going to have a half baked server app, I might as well just use Kodi. They can be as stubborn as they want with this but people need these very basic things. I’d actually donate money to the project if they didn’t stubbornly REFUSE to do the main thing every Plex user wants. Other projects don’t need to do this. The Jellyfin developers need to. I first tried Jellyfin 6 years ago and this is STILL an issue and so I just stay on Plex because I’ve already got lifetime. I WANT to move to Jellyfin but I need to give normies access to my stuff and apparently that’s a wontfix for them?? I can host all this shit myself. I just need it all built in and for the apps to support it. I don’t think anyone is crazy to want this right?

Keep in mind there’s a block from a different lawsuit already so this affects nothing at the moment. Guess we’ll see what happens. Entire thing is fucking ridiculous.
